NMPT observes Engineers' Day

Mangalore, September 15: The New Mangalore Port Trust celebrated 151st Birth Anniversary of Sir M Visvesvaraya as Engineers' Day on Thursday, at Port Auditorium near here.

Prof. Babu Narayan of Civil Engineering Department, NITK was the chief guest of the programme.

In his key note address, he explained the qualities of Sir M V and gave presentation on taller, longer and stronger structures constructed at global level.

Dr P Tamilvanan, Chairman, NMPT, in his Presidential address congratulated all the engineer's and informed the engineer's to adopt discipline, punctuality and qualities of Sir M V and take mother port to greater heights.

Dr P Tamilvanan distributed the prizes to the winners of quiz and pick and speak programme for the high school children's conducted on account of Engineer's Day and also distributed the cash award to one each of the graduate and diploma engineer among the port employees children who scored highest marks in the final year Engineering stream exam of 2010-11.

During the occasion, F F Britto, Executive Engineer (Ele.) Retd., NMPT was felicitated. M R Hedaoo, Chief Engineer, (Civil) welcomed the gathering and Ivan A Montherio, Chief Mechanical Engineer proposed the vote of thanks. Aleshappa, Exe Engineer (Ele.) compered the programme.

Mandya, Aug 1: In a terrific incident, a college student has stabbed his own mother to death in Karnataka’s Mandya town over a trivial issue. The police have managed to nab the accused. 

According to police, the boy was irked by his mother rebuking him for staying out with his friends late in the night.

On Wednesday (July 29), she scolded him for not listening to her advice, following which he stabbed her to death, the official said. 

The student was arrested on July 30. He reportedly confessed to the crime. 

A police officer said that the woman was upset over her son frequently spending time with his friends till late in the night.

Udupi, Jul 21: Udupi Court complex has been sealed down for two days for sanitisation after a judge tested positive for Covid-19, a source said on Tuesday.

The Covid cases in Udupi district which had reduced recently are once again seeing a spurt. On Monday, as many as 98 have tested positive taking the total cases in the district to 2,321.

Udupi, Jan 14: The Udupi district police on Tuesday arrested two suspected terrorists at the Indrali railway station in Udupi.

The two, who had reportedly arrived from Kerala at around 6 ap.m., were standing at the Indrali railway station platform.

Suspicious of their behaviour, the police took them to custody and subjected them to interrogation.

According to reports the duo had involved in the murder of Tamil Nadu police Special Sub-Inspector Wilson.

However, top cop of the district has refused to comment regarding the arrest of the youths.
