Yekkur motorbike accident victim identified

Mangalore, September 19: The motorcyclist, who lost his life in a road accident on NH-75 in Yekkur near hear last Saturday, has been identified as Mohammad Arif, a 22-year-old youth from Uppala.

The young rider was run over by the lorry after he fell off his bike while trying to overtake a vehicle near Yekkur railway-bridge. His head was crushed beyond recognition.

The pillion rider on the crashed two-wheeler had survived the accident, but apparently fled the scene after the incident.

The body had been kept at morgue in Government Wenlock Hospital till Monday morning, as nobody came forward to claim the body.

Arif's elder brother Zakariya, who confirmed that the dead body was that of his younger brother, who had left for Mangalore three days ago.

The dead body was handed over to the family on Monday afternoon after completing formalities.

Meanwhile, the city police found that the pulsar bike, bearing registration number KA19 - 1444 with 'Fazil' written on it, which met with accident, was stolen one.

A complaint of bike theft had been lodged with the Pandeshwar police station by Alex Anthony from Vidyanagar. He has stated that his motorbike which was parked near Town Hall had been lifted by some unidentified thief.

However, police said that it was not confirmed whether the deceased was thief or he was riding the bike stolen by someone else.

Hubli, Feb 24: Pro-Pakistan slogans were found written on the walls and doors of Higher Primary School in Budarsingi village here on Monday, said Raman Gouda Hatti, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), DCRB, Dharwad.

"The headmaster of the school noticed the slogans written on the walls and doors by chalk and he informed us. We will investigate the matter based on the complaint," said DSP Hatti.

The slogans were written in the Kannada language. Those behind the incident have not been identified so far.

The villagers staged a protest demanding action against those behind the act.

Congress leader HK Patil condemned the incident and asked for culprits to be identified and punished soon.

"Anti-social elements are involved in these acts. The government has failed to identify these people and punish them. The culprits behind this act need to be identified and punished. This incident is unfortunate and the intelligence department should work to stop these kinds of incidents," said Patil.

Bengaluru, Mar 24: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who had earlier announced that Indira canteen will supply free meals to the poor and BPL card holders, on Tuesday announced that Indira Canteens will be remain closed as there is fear of spread of the coronavirus as people assemble in large number.

On Monday, he had announced that Indira Canteens would provide food free of cost for the benefit of daily wage workers and poor people in the wake of a complete lockdown.

Asked about the alternative the government would provide, he said, "Closure of canteens is needed to avoid the rush near the canteen as it may lead to problems.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: State officials will conduct Common Entrance Test (CET) exam as per the instructions given by the state high court, said Karnataka deputy chief minister CN Ashwathnarayan on Tuesday.

"Officials have informed that they are all set to conduct exams on July 30 and 31. We will put this matter in front of the high court. As per the instructions of the high court, we will move forward," said Ashwathnarayan.

This comes after Karnataka High court asked the state government to reconsider the decision of conducting the CET exam.

"...I had called an emergency meeting with district collectors, officials of education, transport, health, police department. And, I took information about the preparedness for conducting the CET exam," he added.

Karnataka CET Exam is a state-level entrance exam organised for providing admissions in Engineering, Pharmacy, B Pharma and other courses offered by colleges and institutions located in the state.
