Giant cruise vessels plan their destination to New Mangalore Port

Mangalore, September 20: More cruise liners opt New Mangalore Port for operating their cruise vessels in the ensuing season which commence from October.

A team from Royal Caribbean International, one of the leading cruise operators of the World, has visited the Port on Tuesday and had discussion with the Port Chairman, Traffic Manager and Deputy Conservator along with the representatives of M/s J.B. Baxi – the vessel agent.

This is the second visit of the team during the current year. Mr, Adam Sharp, Manager of Royal Caribbean, after visiting the port area has expressed happiness over the facilities available at NMPT for handling cruise vessels.

He was very much impressed upon the world class facilities available at the Cruise Lounge, neat and tidy berth area, concretised roads, security arrangements, Immigration facility, greenery in and around the port, availability of local ground tour operators, proximity to tourist areas, etc.

The above Liner has already prepared their plan for bringing 13 cruise vessels during the next one year period.

The first vessel M.V. AID Adiva is scheduled to call at the Port on December 12, 2011 with 1300 plus passengers. The biggest vessel M.V. Brilliance of the Seas with a length of 293.5 metres and 2000 passengers with 500 crew members on board is expected to call at the Port on November 12, 2011, which will be the biggest cruise vessel and ever handled at the Port.

Dr. P Tamilvanan has briefed the team about the facilities available at the Port and assured to extend all cooperation for the smooth handling of these cruise vessels.

During the year 2010-11, 14 cruise vessels with 5854 passengers called at the Port out of which 4119 passengers have opted for ground tour and enjoyed the scenic beauty of D.K. District like 1000 Pillar Jain temple, Soans farm, Gokarnanatha temple, St.Aloysius chapel, Kadri temple, cashew factory, etc.

Kasaragod, Mar 23: The district administration on Monday decided to abandon efforts to map out the movement details of the NRI who came from Dubai recently and came into contact with many in North Kerala.

The district has been completely locked down since Monday morning, on the directive of the Central Government. Prohibitory orders have been slapped in the district since Sunday night to restrict socialisation of the people.

As the person now in isolation have allegedly been non-cooperative, the authorities were finding it difficult to sketch out a rote map as his movement and socialisation has been so vast and wide since his arrival here on March 12.

The middle aged and popular NRI who landed at Karipur airpprt on March 11 had been in Calicut till midnight prior to boarding the Maveli Express to make it to his hometown Kasaragod, which is 160 kms away from Calicut. He had come into contact with very many, including two MLAs of the district, prior to getting tested positive and getting isolated in the hospital.

Madikeri, Mar 16: Three suspected cases of COVID-19, who returned from a foreign country recently have been admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital here, the district administration said on Monday.

The samples of the suspected cases have been sent for lab tests and the reports are being awaited, sources said.

As many as 74 people have been placed under home quarantine in Kodagu (also known as Coorg) as a precautionary measure following their return from abroad, a press note from the Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy said.

Mangaluru, Jun 23: The wholesale fresh fish dealers have voluntarily decided to suspend sale for 10 days from June 24 in the wake of fresh coronavirus outbreak in the region. 

Convening the collective decision of the traders in a letter, K Ashraf, working president of the association of Mangaluru fisheries harbour fish traders and commission agents, has urged the deputy commissioner to formally impose ban on fish trade in the city for next 10 days to prevent the spread of the covid-19. 

Mr Ashraf stated that decision was taken as many fish traders suffering from symptoms such as cough, cold and fever for last few days and some of the traders have got themselves admitted in hospitals for treatment. 

The letter urged the DC to prevent and ban unauthorized traders selling fish not only in Bander but also in neighbourhoods like Ullal Kotepur, Hoige Bazar, Bengre, Farangipet, near VRL, Kudroli, Kallapu and Maripalla.
