Air Warriors' vroom on city roads

Mangalore September 23: A motorcycle expedition flagged off from Mysore with twin goals of celebrating the golden jubilee year of 2 Air Force Selection Board (2AFSB) and to encourage youth to join the Indian Air Force reached Mangalore on Thursday.

The team of 16 'Air warriors' from the unit rode into St Aloysius College and disbursed handbills with the message to join IAF in order to realise a life quality and adventure.

Briefing media person, Wing Commander Vinay Panthari said 15 air warriors were handpicked and trained for the gruelling expedition which aims to cover 5,000 Km in the southern states of Indian. The motorcycle expedition flagged off from Mysore at 12.30 pm on September 21 and reached Bangalore.

On the Thursday the team set out at 6 am and touched Mangalore at about 4.30 pm. Friday and later in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderbad, West Bengal, Chennai, Puducherry, Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari, Trivandrum, Cochin, Coimbatore and Mysore. The expedition which has already covered 900 km will end on October 6, he informed.

While stopping for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the team makes it a point to disburse handbills motivating youth to join the Air Force. Before retiring at night, they make it a point to increase awareness about IAF among youth. Wing Commander Vinay Panthari who joined IAF 10 years ago has completed 2,700 hours of flying.

He also shared a hair-raising experienced of having flown from New Delhi to Guwahati through turbulent weather and safely landing the plane.

The team also comprises four warriors from Karnataka who joined the unit about four years ago.

Ravindra, Putte Gowda from Mysore, Mahesh and Baby from Bangalore expressed happiness on being part of the expedition.

Mangaluru, Mar 23: In its efforts to contain the outbreak of COVID-19, the district administration has ordered that all shops and establishments selling essential commodities to remain open only between 0600 hrs and 1200 hrs from Tuesday till March 31.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, in a press release here, announced that autorickshaws and taxis should not ferry passengers and should be utilised only during emergencies and for transportation of essential commodities among others.

Ms Sindhu has also ordered shutting down industries. Only those industries involved in the production of essential commodities, medicines, medical instruments, medicine, fuel, farm produce among others had been exempted, Please log in to get detailed story.

Mangaluru, Jun 12: A pregnant woman who returned from Maharashtra and tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, gave birth to a child at the Wenlock COVID-19 hospital in Mangaluru. After she experienced labour pain, a team of expert doctors performed the delivery through the caesarean section on Thursday.

Both the woman and the new born are safe, hospital sources said. The woman, who belongs to Kinnigoli in Dakshina Kannada district, had arrived in the city on Monday. She was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and was taken to another hospital the next day after she complained of weakness.

As she came from Maharashtra, she was shifted to a separate ward at the Wenlock hospital and quarantined. Her throat swab samples tested positive on Wednesday. A COVID-19 test will be done on the baby after a few days, district health officer Ramachandra Bairy said.

Bengaluru, Apr 14: Despite lockdown in the country to contain the spread of coronavirus, former chief minister of Karnataka and Janata Dal-Secular leader, HD Kumaraswamy has decided to go ahead with marriage of his son Nikhil.

"Marriage will be performed in closed doors among the family members, which may be around 50 people. Family members only will be present in the marriage and all the precautionary measures will be followed as per the guidelines given by the government," Kumaraswamy said.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy, who contested Lok Sabha election from Mandya, is also the national youth wing president of Janata Dal-Secular. His marriage has been fixed with niece of former Congress minister M Krishnappa on April 17.

"Date was fixed months ago and we canot miss the good star and holy muhurtham. That is why we have decided to perform marriage on the fixed date among the family members," he said.
Marriage will be performed at bride Revati's residence.

Earlier Kumaraswamy and family had plans to perform the marriage at a location near Ramnagar, which is also former chief minister's constituency.
