Steven Rego of Vijaya Karnataka bags Kadandale award

Mangalore, September 28: City based journalist Steven Rego has bagged K J Shetty Kadandale award, jointly instituted by 'Yugapurusha' publication and 'Vijaya Kalavidaru' troupe.

Mr Rego is the sub editor with the Mangalore Bureau of 'Vijaya Karnataka' Kannada daily newspaper.

Selection committee chose Mr Rego for his special report 'Malligeya Katu Vasane, Tragedy Ooru Shankarapura' published in 'Vijaya Karnataka'.

The judges have pointed out that report has created awareness against the excessive use of pesticides.

The award instituted in memory of veteran journalist Late K J Shetty Kadandale, consist of Rs 15, 000 in cash, a citation and a trophy.

The award will be conferred on Mr Rego on October 2, at a programme at Yugapursha Auditorium in Kinnigoli, stated a press release issued by Kodethur Bhuvanabhirama Udupa, the editor-in-chief of 'Yagapurusha'

Mangaluru, Apr 28: Trucks carrying fish loads from Kerala will not be allowed to enter Dakshina Kannada district as the authorities are not being able to control the rush in markets, state Fisheries Minister and district-in-charge Kota Srinivas Poojary said Monday.

The deputy commissioner has been instructed to restrict the entry of fish transport vehicles from outside the district forthwith, in view of the difficulty in maintaining social distancing at the markets identified in the district, the minister told reporters here.

The coastal district has to take more precautionary measures to fight COVID-19 as the number of positive cases have risen in the last couple of days, he said.

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar's daughter Aishwarya and Cafe Coffe Day founder late VG Siddhartha's son, Amarthya Hegde got engaged at SM Krishna Residence, Sadashivanagar in Bengaluru on Monday.
Only family members were present in the event. Amarthya Hegde is also the grandson of former Union Minister SM Krishna.
Last year in July, the body of Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) founder Siddhartha was unearthed on the banks of Netravati river.

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Saturday initiated Phase I clinical trials to use plasma therapy for COVID-19 patients at city-based BMC Victoria Hospital.

Sriramulu was accompanied by Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar.

"Karnataka has taken a lead role as we initiate Phase I clinical trials to use Convalescent Plasma Therapy for severe COVID-19 infected patients. BMC Victoria hospital took the first step today. We are determined to vanquish this enemy of mankind," Sriramulu said in a tweet.

"I wish our team of doctors at BMC Victoria hospital and team led by Dr US Vishal Rao a great success. This will be a torchbearer in our fight against Corona," he said in another tweet.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state has so far reported 474 confirmed cases of COVID-19 which include 152 discharged or cured patients and 18 deaths.
