Prepaid auto-rickshaw counters relaunched; fares revised

Mangalore, October 2: Promising hassle-free journey home from stations to both railway and bus passengers, Dakshina Kannada district administration on Sunday gave a fresh start to pre-paid auto-rickshaw counters at Mangalore Central Railway Station near Hampankatta and KSRTC main bus station at Bejai here.

Dr N S Chennappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner, DK and Latha R Kini, President, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry inaugurated the counters, which were welcomed by the public.

Dr Gowda said that the facility would be of help to passengers and auto-rickshaw drivers alike and solve many problems faced by passengers.

In this system, a passenger need not to worry about overcharging by some auto drivers as the formers will know the exact amount to be paid for their destination within the limits of Mangalore City Corporation, he said. However, for distance beyond the MCC limits the charges will be 1.5 times of the amount displayed on the metre.

He also said that passengers can call help lines on 100 or 22220577 for any complaint.

Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and DK Superintendent of Police Labu Ram were also present.

Auto-fares revised

Meanwhile, auto rickshaw fares in the city have been revised from Sunday. It is now Rs 17 for first 1.5-kms and Rs 12 for every kilometre thereafter. Waiting charge is free for first 15 minutes and 25% of the fare for next 45 minutes thereof. The first 20-kgs of luggage is free and Rs 2 for subsequent kgs or part thereof. Commuters will have to pay 1-1/2 times actual fare from 10 am to 5 pm.

Mangaluru, Apr 15: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh has written to her counterpart at Valsad to make food and accommodation arrangements for two persons from Puttur who are stranded at Ambergaon village in their district due to lockdown.

Valsad is a district near Gujarat-Maharashtra border.

Ashik Hussain and Mohammed Takeen Maril, have been stuck at the RTO check post of Ambergaon for the last 21 days. The duo have been staying in their car, without proper accommodation or food.

Madikeri, Jan 4: Two girls were seriously injured after a wild elephant attacked them on their way back to home near Injilagere here, Forest officials said on Saturday.

The officials said that Nityashree of class four, along with her younger sister Yuvashree of class two, were on their way back home from Government Primary School. The students are the daughters of Mani, resident of School estate line house in Puliyeri village.

Mangaluru, April 3: A police officer in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district got injured on Friday after unidentified youth pelted stones at him.

The incident took place when the cop stopped them from entering into the state from Kerala in the view of nationwide lockdown. He was later administered medical aid.
