State Under-14 Chess Championship: Arjun Adappa, Prerna Rai win titles

Mangalore, October 5: Top seeded Arjun Adappa scored all wins in seven rounds to win the honour in the Karnataka state in boys' category of under 14chess championship organized by King's Academy, Mangalore on behalf of Karnataka State Chess Association, held at Derik's Chess School, Mangalore.

Athul Shetty, Yashas Smaga, Under 10 champion Anutthama A and Akhil R M were in a 4 way tie with 5 points each after 7 rounds. Favorable tiebreak points helped Athul to secure runner up. Others were placed third to fifth in the order. Shreyas Pandith, Abhishek Bhat, Dhrikshu Vasanth and Shashanka Katta were placed sixth to ninth with 4.5 points.

In girls' category, game between top seeded Reesha Shenoy and second seeded Prerna Rai played a well fought game in 4th round which ended with the draw. However, both scored victories in the final round to end with two way tie. Better tiebreak points favoured Prerna Rai to win the title. Reesha Shenoy had to be content for Runner-up.

Yogitha Mohan Naik, Manasa karanth, Ishani Rai, Adithi Surana and Shreya Bhat were placed third to seventh place with three points each.

Prizes were distributed by John Fernandes, entrepreneur and Deric Pinto, President, Karnataka State Chess Association. CA Radesh Shenoy, Secretary, King's Academy; Praveen Kamath, Coordinator; Sabitha Kunder, Chief Arbiter were also present on the dais.

Top two players in each category are selected to represent Karnataka in the CAI's National Under 14 chess championship.

Bengaluru, Jul 5: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has asked officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements for COVID-19 patients must be carried out efficiently and transparently, Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said.

"Karnataka is in a better position due to the efforts and hard work of ministers, doctors, officials and all staff. The cases have increased in Bengaluru and some other districts in last few days due to various reasons. We all have to work hard and contain the spread of virus," Dr Sudhakar told media on Saturday.

"Responsibilities related to policy formulation, preparation of guidelines, communication to media and management of war room have been assigned to me. Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan has been given the responsibility of managing COVID-19 care centres and Revenue Minister R Ashoka and Chief Minister's political secretary Vishvanath have been given the responsibility of managing private hospitals. The Chief Minister has instructed all of us to work in synergy," he said.

Dr Sudhakar said the matter of imposing lockdown in the state again was discussed in the task force meeting. "I and Deputy Chief Minister suggested that lockdown is not necessary at this stage. The Chief Minister will take a decision on this matter," he added.

Home Minister Basavar Bommai, Health Minister B Sriramulu, Revenue Minister R Ashoka and senior officials were present in the task force meeting.

Bengaluru, May 3: The Excise Commissioner of Karnataka has issued an order granting permission to distilleries, breweries and wineries situated outside the containment zones to begin production activity. The permission has been granted on the condition that they strictly comply with COVID-19 related guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"In view of the state government order and the new guidelines issued by the MHA, permission is granted to distilleries, breweries and wineries situated in rural areas and industrial estates and industrial townships with access control (outside containment zones) to commence only production activity," the Excise Commissioner said in the order.

The Excise Commissioner further said in the order that the Deputy Commissioner of Excise shall ensure that wherever distilleries, breweries and wineries are permitted to carry on production activities, they shall strictly comply with COVID-19 related guidelines issued by the MHA.

Mangaluru, Mar14 (UNI) In view of prevailing Global situation, Coast Guard Karnataka took initiatives for creating awareness among the CG Personnel, Civilian Staff and Families on precautions so that the contagious Coronavirus be prevented.

For the benefit of CG personnel posters have been displayed at entrance and prominent places in office premises and residential areas including the CG KG School.

All CG Personnel and their families were advised to frequently wash their hands with sanitiser or soap and water at regular intervals. They are also requested to cover their nose and mouth with handkerchief or tissue while coughing or sneezing. It is advised to consult doctor if there is fever, difficulty in breathing, coughing, all being symptoms of Corona Virus.
