Two killed; child injured in road mishap

Udupi, October, 8: Two men were killed and a child sustained severe injuries, when their motorbike was hit by a speeding tempo in front of government school near Nitturu Hanumanthanagar NH-66 around 5:30 pm.

The victims have been identified as Nagaraj (26), son of Babu Poojari and Yathish (27), both residents of Kodi, Kundapur. Nagaraj's bought niece Srujan (4) is recovering in a private hospital.

The incident took place when Nagaraj was returning from his sister house at Mukka near Suratkal along with his friend Yathish and niece.

Nagraj died on spot when the sand laden tempo rammed against the two-wheeler. Yathish succumbed to his injuries in Udupi district hospital.

4-year old Srujan lost his leg in the accident and shifted to a private hospital in Mangalore for treatment.

The motorbike has been completely damaged in the accident and case has been registered at the Udupi police station.

Mangaluru, Feb 13: Jnandev Kamath, former President of erstwhile Mangalore Stock Exchange Limited died late last night in a private hospital in the city.

He was 65 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Jnandev Kamath was an alumnus of SDM College of Law and Business Management. 

He was one the founding members of Mangalore Stock Exchange Limited. He was an avid sportsman, an accomplished cricketer, a champion rallyist and golf coach. 

He often played for Pentlandpet Sports Association (PPSA) in his younger days.

Mangaluru, May 24: A 42 –year-old man who was the secondary contact of P 1233 has been tested positive for COVID 19, in Dakshina Kannada on Sunday.

The man is being treated at the designated COVID-19 hospital in Mangaluru. With this, DK has registered a total of 66 positive cases with 34 active cases.

P 1233 was a 30-year-old man who had inter-state travel history from Maharashtra, said DK DC Sindhu B Rupesh.

The news case took the district's covid tally to 66 and 34 of them are active cases.

Mangaluru, Apr 15: For the convenience of the public during the lockdown period, the Department of Posts has been providing essential services to the public at its various branch offices which are functioning from 1000 hrs to 1400 hrs.

Medicines and other essential items can be sent via parcel from any town to any place in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Arrangements are also being made to extend this facility to nearby districts. In case of sending medicines and other essentials to other states from Mangaluru, the transportation has to be done via Bengaluru and can be expedited if a request for urgency is made, says a press release from the Senior Superintendent of Posts of Mangaluru Division on Wednesday.
