Dr Jessy D'Souza elected president of South Kanara Chess Association

Mangalore, October 10: Dr Jessy M D'Souza , M S Madhava and Ramanath were elected unopposed as President, Secretary and Treasurer respectively of South Kanara District Chess Association in the recently held Annual General Body meeting at Association office premises.

Dr Jessy M D'souza is a gynecologist by profession having deep passion for chess and she is a good organizer also.

Mr M. S Madhava is also the joint secretary of United Karnataka Chess Association and is serving as Secretary of Mangalore Jayceess.

Smt. Lydia D'Cunha, T.A Nagendra, Smt. Mitra bai and Mr Sudhakaran were elected as vice presidents while R Kaushik, Suresh Shenoy, Mahesh Shetty and R. N. Nagaraj as joint secretaries.

Sri M.R. Vasudeva , Mangalore airport director will continue as honorary president of the association.

UKCA President and Joint secretary of All India Chess Federation Mr M.S. Gururaj will be the honorary adviser to the association.

Bengaluru, Feb 8: The Department of Religious Endowments in Karnataka will undertake 'Ratha Yatras' in 110 major temples of the state, in order to inform the public about mass marriages, scheduled to be held on April 26.

The publicity campaign through Rath Yatra will be flagged off from Mookambika temple in Kollur of Udupi district from February 13.

The mass marriage programme 'Saptapadi,' would be held in 100 major temples of Muzrai department. The second phase would be held on May 24, Minister for Ports, Fisheries and Muzrai Kota Srinivas Poojary told newspersons here on Friday.

Bengaluru, May 28: The Karnataka government has done away with previously mandatory COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic international travellers. 

The development comes a day after the government issued a circular, which allowed placing of international travellers into home quarantine if they had completed seven days of institutional quarantine.

A circular signed by Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, dated May 27, says that any “person who has completed seven days of institutional quarantine and is asymptomatic can be permitted for home quarantine with a COVID-19 test (RT-PCR), subject to undergoing a medical check-up.”

This check-up equates to thermal screening (with a required temperature of under 37.5C or 99.5F and pulse oximetry of under 94%). 

The circular added that all elderly people, over the age of 60, and those with comorbidities (such as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, heart ailment, renal disease...etc) are “required to be clinically evaluated diligently prior to shifting them for quarantine.”

On Wednesday, Pankaj Pandey, Commissioner, the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that these new guidelines were based on recommendations from the COVID Task Force. A member of the COVID Task Force said that new strategies had been formulated based on the latest findings on how the SARS-Cov-2 virus affects people.

Mangaluru, Aug 1: Former member of Karnataka Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. 

The Congress leader took to social media to break the news. “I and my wife Dr Kavitha have been tested positive covid-19 positive. There are no symptoms. We had voluntarily given our throat swabs for testing,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also requested his friends and well-wishers not to visit him until he recovers. 

Mr D’Souza had participated in a party meeting at Congress Bhavan when KPCC chief DK Shivakumar visited city yesterday. He was seen meeting several Congress leaders including U T Khader.
