Udupi, October 20: Protesting against the torture and high handedness of representatives of the people, over 55 PDOs under the banner of Pachayath Development Officers' Welfare Association, Udupi district, staged a demonstration infront of the Zilla Panchayath Office, here on Wednesday.

Agitators submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to the Zilla Panchayath CEO Prabhakar Sharma. In the memorandum they said in Udupi district too, PDOs of Hebri, Hejamady, Hirgana, Mundkur, Kokkarne, Badanidiyoor, Shirva, Hattiyangadi and Kadekar had been frequently tortured and all of them are women PDOs.Agitators submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to the Zilla Panchayath CEO Prabhakar Sharma. ZP CEO Prabhakar Sharma, after receiving the memorandum said that they palnning to hold a training for PDOs and GP Presidents on handling the issues. He said, PDOs can share some of the crucial issues affecting the exercising op their duties. Mangaluru , Mar 30: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Laxmi Prasad on Monday suspended a constable attached to Subramanya Police Station for manhandling the chief priest of Kukke Subramanya Temple on Saturday.

According to the police, when the priest Srinivas Bhat was on his way to the temple to offer Puja, Prasad, a police constable intercepted him and enquired where he was going during the lockdown period and then charged at him with lathi on his hand and back.

The priest, then immediately filed a complaint at local police station, following which a complaint was also brought to the notice of Deputy SP of Puttur Sub-division.Please lo

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 7: Coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have recorded 17 and 13 new coronavirus positive cases between 5 p.m. on June 6 and 5 p.m. on June 7. 

16 among 17 new covid patients in Dakshina Kannada are returnees from Maharashtra, while one returned from Goa recently.

Maharashtra returnees comprise 14 males, including three teenagers t, and two females aged 32 and 41. The Goa returnee is a 32-year-old male.

All of them have all been admitted to the designated COVID hospital in the district.

With this, the total tally of coronavirus cases in Dakshina Kannada has risen to 203, out of which 47 are currently active. As many as 150 patients have recovered and been discharged, and seven have died.

Among the 13 in Udupi, 12 are Maharashtra returnees, while process of contact tracing of one patient, a 30-year-old woman, is going on.

The patients comprise eight males, including a 7-year-old boy, and five females. They have all been admitted to the designated hospital.

This takes the total number of coronavirus cases in Udupi district to 902, out of which 798 are currently active, 103 discharged, and one patient has died.

Udupi, May 28: The India Meteorologic Department (IMD) on Thursday warned fishermen in coastal belt of Karnataka against venturing out into the deep sea between May 31 and June 4.

The Department stated that depression is expected to occur in the south-eastern part of Arabian Sea and the nearby areas and it would be dangerous for the fishermen of Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep to go out towards the deep sea.

The Department officials said that they would provide information on development in weather conditions. In the backdrop of the current weather forecast, however, the fishermen in the western coastline were advised against venturing into the sea.
