One killed, several injured as KSRTC bus collides with fish laden lorry

Mulky, October 22: A man was killed and several others injured in a head on collision between a KSRTC bus and a fish laden lorry on National Highway near Haleyangadi junction, near here.

The diseased has been identified as Krishna Vasudeva Nayka, the driver of ill-fated lorry.

The tragedy took place around 5:30 am when the passenger bus plying from Gadag to Mangalore hit lorry, moving towards Malpe from Mangalore.

The impact of the accident was such that the front portion of the lorry has been completely damaged. The lorry driver lost both of his legs in the accident, said the eye witnesses. Although he was rushed to a private hospital in Mangalore, he succumbed to the injuries.

At least six passengers of the bus have also been hospitalized in Suratkal and Mangalore with serious injuries.

Eye witnesses said that the speeding vehicles collided while negotiating a curve, where four-lane road work is in progress.

The accident led to the traffic jam for some time, as both the vehicles had blocked the road. However, Mulky police, who rushed to the spot made necessary arrangements to remove the vehicles from the road with the help of cranes and cleared the traffic.

A case has been registered at Mulki Police Station.

Mangaluru | Five PG doctors test covid positive; many medicos quarantined

Mangaluru, Jun 25: In a shocking development, as many as five post-graduate (PG) doctors have tested positive for coronavirus in Mangaluru.

The one male and four female doctors – all aged around 28 years – are asymptomatic and are being treated at the designated covid hospital in the city.

All the five PG doctors of Kasturba Medical College were deputed at Govt. Lady Goschen Hospital and District Wenlock Hospital (Covid Hospital).

Meanwhile, around 30 medicos have been quarantined.

According to sources, the five doctors were staying in a residential apartment in the city. The apartment is likely to be sealed.

12 from Karnataka, who attended Tablighi Jamaat conference, test negative for COVID-19

Bengaluru, Apr 1: As many as 12 of the 40 identified people from Karnataka, who attended Tablighi congregation in Nizamuddin, Delhi, have tested negative for COVID-19, state Health Minister B Sriramulu said in a tweet on Wednesday.

It is also learnt that 62 foreigners from Indonesia and Malaysia, who attended the congregation, have visited the State and 12 of them have been quarantined, the tweet said.

''The health department, in association with the Home department, has jointly started the process of identifying all the 300 who attended the event,'' he said.

2 more tests positive for coronavirus in K'taka, state's count reaches 279

Bengaluru, Apr 16: With two more people testing positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka, the state's corona cases count has reached 279, including 80 discharged and 12 deaths, said the government on Wednesday.

A total of 19 corona cases were confirmed in the state on Wednesday. 17 cases were reported earlier in the day, of which 15 are male patients and two are female. Of the 17 cases, nine are workers of a pharmaceutical company in Mysuru, the government stated.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old from Chikkaballapur, who had tested positive for COVID-19, lost his life this afternoon.

"He was referred to a Bengaluru hospital with complaints of H1N1 positive, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with obstructive sleep apnea and a past history of diabetes and hypertension," the government said.
