KMC Hospital to observe World Stroke Day on Oct 29

Mangalore, October, 27: Like previous years, KMC Hospital, Mangalore, will be observing World Stroke Day October 29, said Dr Sunil Deshpande, senior vice president operations and medical superintendent of the Hospital.

Laying emphasis on the importance of World Stroke Day at a press meet here on Thursday, Mr Deshpande said that the Stroke Management Team at the KMC Hospital has successfully Thrombolysis over 50 patients in the past year.

“KMC was fully equipped to treat patients suffering from stroke or brain attack and in this concern the Hospital has launched a special stroke prevention package which is priced at Rs 1999”, he said, adding that this package is especially recommended for people who are diabetic, hypertensive, obese, smokers, having family history of stroke or cardiac diseases etc.

The package includes investigations such as fasting and postprandial blood sugar, lipid profile, complete blood count, renal function test, carotid Doppler, and dietician and neurology consultation, he added.

Dr Z K Misri, the neurologist, briefed about the increasing trend of stroke cases in the city and how important it is to get the patient who has suffered from stroke to the nearest healthcare centre which is equipped to handle stroke patients.

He also emphasized that a stroke patient should be treated within the golden period of 4.5 hours of the stroke attack to reverse any permanent disability that is caused due to stroke.

Dr Suresh B V, another neurologist, spoke on the indications of stroke and brain attack. Any patient who gets sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg, confusion or difficult in speaking, blurred or double vision, drowsiness, vomiting or nausea, difficulty in walking, or loss of balance and coordination, such person should take medical care within 4 hours of time so that the risk can be reduced, he advised.

Neurologists Dr Rakshith K C and Dr Shivananda Pai were present in the press meet. The patients, who received effective treatment at the Hospital for stroke, namely Ammanna (77), and Gopi (87), were also present.

DK Shivakumar's daughter engaged to late Coffee King Siddhartha's son

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar's daughter Aishwarya and Cafe Coffe Day founder late VG Siddhartha's son, Amarthya Hegde got engaged at SM Krishna Residence, Sadashivanagar in Bengaluru on Monday.
Only family members were present in the event. Amarthya Hegde is also the grandson of former Union Minister SM Krishna.
Last year in July, the body of Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) founder Siddhartha was unearthed on the banks of Netravati river.

Liquor worth Rs 197 crore sold in Karnataka on second day of lockdown relaxation

Bengaluru, May 6: The second day of liquor sales in Karnataka on Tuesday after easing of lockdown curbs saw a nearly five-fold jump in earnings, with Rs 197 crore worth spirits being sold.

According to top Excise Department officials, 4.21 lakh cases of Indian-made liquor, comprising 36.37 lakh litres, worth Rs 182 crore and 7.02 lakh litres of beer in 0.90 lakh cases worth Rs 15 crore was sold on Tuesday.

On Monday, when sales resumed in the state, Rs 45 crore worth liquor was sold.

"We had never expected such a record sale. It's unprecedented," an Excise official who did not wish to be named said.

Liquor sales had resumed in Karnataka on Monday after a 41 day gap following the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Muslim Committee drops Jan 4 anti-CAA protest plan as cops refuse permission

Mangaluru, Jan 2: The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi has dropped its plan to stage a massive protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens on January 4 at Mangaluru’s Nehru Maidan.

Addressing a press conference here today, committee chief K S Mohammed Masood made this announcement.

“All the 28 organisations that had decided to stage protest under the leadership of the Muslim Central Committee, have unanimously agreed to temporarily cancel the protest plan after the city police refused permission for the event,” he said.

Mr Masood requested the people, especially the youth, not to lose patience. “No one should head to Nehru Maidan on January 4 as Muslim leaders have unanimously decided to cancel the protest,” he urged.

S M Rasheed Haji, Y Abdulla Kunhi, Umar UH, Ibrahim Kodichal, B M Mumtaz Ali, Khasim H K, Mansoor Ahmed Azad and Asif Deals were present in the press meet.

Are u planning to approach the court for gaining the permission from the police, bcoz otherwise I don't think we will get the permission

Secondly, a few days back I wanted to contact Muslim central committee office to confirm if the protest Wil be there. I googled for the no, but the no. did not exist. Does that mean the Muslim central committee does not have an office or telephone no????

This only shows how organised we are.

Requesting Muslim central committee to get their house in order. Get more professional. Also consult people to utilise various platform to responsibly collect funds from so many ordinary bearys who want to donate money, but don't know whom to send it to.

We need an action committee to handle such situations. It must consist a battery of lawyers to fight the cases filed by the police.

If our leaders are old, they need to groom new leaders into the committee.

Moreover, it is important to question these so called leaders about their fecilitation program conducted for making kateel wen he won the election. Wat was the purpose of such fecilitation. Becoz I don't think he gives a damn when our community suffered. I question, whether all this is done in our name only to gain your contact and flourish ur business???
