Mangalore, November 12: The Hindu Hitharakshana Vedike came down heavily on the UPA government for trying to pass Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill 2011 in the winter session.

Speaking to presspersons here, Vedike Honourary President Vaman Shenoy said that the Bill is anti-Hindu and the Vedike will stage protest across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts against the proposed Bill.

The Forum will stage a public meeting at Central Maidan in Mangalore on November 23 at 4 pm. A procession from Jyothi Circle to Central Maidan will be held on the occasion. Senior leaders will take part in the public meeting. The forum will also stage protest on Sunday at Gurpura. The protest will be staged at Bantwal, Puttur, Belthangady, Ullal, Karkala and Udupi on November 14 and at Surathkal, Mulky, Moodbidri, Kundapur and Sullia on November 15.

He said the UPA government has nurtured scams. To divert the attention of the public from the scams, the government has proposed to introduce the Bill in the Parliament session. Keeping in mind the forthcoming general election and to woo the minorities, the government is trying to pass Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill 2011.

Shenoy said “the Bill does not support the majority of the country. It aims at dividing the country and society on basis of caste and religion. The Bill is against the constitution.”

The Bill divides the Indian citizens as 'group' and 'others.' The group includes minority communities like Muslims, Christians, linguistic minorities and SC/ST. Hindus are addressed as others.

He said “the draft Bill presumes that the communal violence is created only by members of the majority and not by members of the minority community.

Accordingly, the offences committed by the members of majority community against members of the minority community are punishable. The draft Bill has different laws for Muslim and Hindu women, if they were the victim of communal violence,” he added.

New Delhi, Feb 3: BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde's swipe at Mahatma Gandhi has irked the top party leadership and he may be forced to apologise, party sources said on Monday.

A senior BJP leader said the Karnataka leader's comments were "condemnable" and the party leadership is upset with him.

"The party has conveyed its displeasure to him and asked him to take remedial measure. Any insult to Mahatma Gandhi is unacceptable," he said.

Hegde, a former Union minister, reportedly claimed at an event in Bangaluru that the entire freedom movement was staged with the consent and support of the British, and the independence movement led by Gandhi was a "drama".

He also wondered why the Father of the Nation was called 'Mahatma' (a great soul).

The party leader said the Lok Sabha MP is a "disciplined" member of the party and will do what he has been asked to.

Hegde, known for hardline Hindutva leanings, has a history of making controversial remarks.

This man and some others like him have reached the peak of their madness.

They will not change their attitude, as they know that nobody can do any harm to them.

Therefore they will listen only to dire action what they deserve per the penal code. If required put him behind bars.

Dont harm them more, see their families.

Bengaluru, Jan 16: Senior Congress leader K J George on Thursday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate officials here in connection with a FEMA case.

The former minister is being investigated by the ED for probable violation of provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

The ED had recently issued summons to George.

Speaking to reporters after appearing before the ED, George said he has answered to the officials' queries and will cooperate further also.

"ED had issued me summons, as a law abiding citizen, I have answered and gave documents to whatever they asked.

Further also if they call me...I will cooperate and provide necessary documents," he said, without divulging any details.

George clarified that no summons has been issued by the ED to members of his family.

"If required they (ED officials) will call me again, and I'm ready to cooperate," the congress leader added.

Last year, the president of the Karnataka Rashtra Samithi Ravi Krishna Reddy had complained to the ED seeking a probe into the alleged money laundering and properties held by George and his family members in the United States.

Responding to a question about a defamation case filed by him against those who have levelled the allegations, George said "Just because ED has called me for questioning, I'm not proved guilty."

"Anyone can complain to agencies like the Income Tax or ED or Lokayukta, but my only objection is with going to the press to project someone as guilty," he said.

"...going to the press with an intention to do a propaganda against me..someone who is in public life-- to project me as guilty is wrong, so I have filed defamation case stating the allegations are false," he added.

George is the third senior Congress leader from Karnataka to face an ED probe after D K Shivakumar and B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan.

Shivakumar was arrested by the agency in a money laundering case and was kept in Tihar Jail, until he got bail in October, while Khan was summoned in connection with the multi-crore IMA group Ponzi scam case.
