Mangalore, November 14: District Congress Committee (DCC) paid rich tributes to India's first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's during his birth anniversary celebrations at District Congress Office here on Monday.
DCC president Ramanath Rai led the floral tributes to Nehru's portrait and spoke about the significance of the children's day.
Speaking on the occasion he said, “Nehru was not only fond of children but also was a great visionary. He formulated the 5- year plans for India and by this he made India stand against tough competition with other nations”
Because of the 5- year plans initiated during the tenure of Nehru, India made steady progress in various fields including industries, agriculture, medicine, education and finance, he pointed out.
Also present at the function were Mangalore MLA,U T Khader, Ex MLC Mohammad Masood, AICC member P V Mohan, KPCC secretary Ivan D Souza, District minority cell president Moideen Bawa, Sadashiva Ullal and DCC Spokesperson T K Sudhir.
