Sangeet Bharathi to hold musical evening 'Ninaad' on Nov 20

Mangalore, November 17: Sangeet Bharathi Foundation, a renowned music organisation will be organising a grand musical evening 'Ninaad' in the city on November 20.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Thursday, Prof Narendra L Nayak, Vice President of Foundation, said Corporation Bank Chairman Managing director Sri Ajai Kumar would inaugurate the programme of rare instruments at 6:00pm at Town Hall.

He said the concert will be divided into two parts. The first part will be a Jugalbandi of Jaltarang and Bansuri by renowned artists Milind Tulankar, Pune and Sri Sunil Avchat , Mumbai. Accompanying them on tabla will be Churudatt Phadke.

The second part will be a Been (Rudra Veena) recital by artist Ustad Bahauddin Dagar of Mumbai, and accompanying him will be Manik Munde, Mumbai.

This recital is being organised after 30 years in Mangalore, he said.

The programme is being sponsored by Corporation Bank, co-sponsored by Karnataka Bank, MRPL, Indian Overseas Bank, Canara Bank, PA Educational Trust, Sagar Reality Promotions and Expert groups of Institutions.

Free entry passes can be availed by music lovers between 4:45 pm and 5:45 pm at the venue on the day of the programme, Said Prof Nayak.

Bengaluru, Jun 5: An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter Scale jolted Karnataka on Friday morning while another with a magnitude of 4.7 was felt in Jharkhand.

The tremors were felt in Hampi (Karnataka) and Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

According to NCS, the aftershocks were felt at 6:55 am in both the places today.

Udupi, Feb 29: Senior Congress leader and Udupi’s crackers trader K Krishnaraja Saralaya allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well outside his house at Paniyadi on Saturday.

He was 87, Krishnaraja was leading a solitary life. It is suspected that he ended his life ''due to mental agony''.

He is survived by two daughters. One is settled in Australia another is in Bengaluru. Saralaya had also served as President of Udupi Town Co-operative Society. The police visited the spot .

Bengaluru, Apr 11: Seven more people have tested positive for coronavirus taking the tally to 214 in the state.

"Coronavirus cases rise to 214 in Karnataka, with seven more people testing positive between 5 PM Friday and 12 PM Saturday," said the Karnataka health department.

According to the health department, all these seven people have a history of contact with COVID-19 patients. Five of them are workers of a pharmaceutical company in Mysuru.

"Out of the total cases in the state, six people have died while 37 others were cured or discharged," added the state health department.
