Intel technology helps enable health care access to people in rural Karnataka

Mangalore, November 17: A joint telemedicine initiative of Intel Corporation and Government of Karnataka has been launched in Angodu village and Harihar town of Davangere district.

With this first of its kind project in Karnataka, the company aims at providing essential technology support in IT infrastructure and offsite technological support.

The project in association with the Government of Karnataka aims at enabling transmission of patient's medical records, including image and live two way audio and video communication. By this consultation of the best cardiac surgeons will be made possible at the rural level.

By this Intel has provided the necessary IT infrastructure and offsite technical resources. Other likeminded services from Tata Consultancy services, HCIT edu and S N Informatics have also joined in to enhance the scope of clinical diagnostics.

R Ravichandran, Director of Sales, South Asia said, “This project will bring the benefits of technology to the interiors of the country. Intel has long been committed to changing people's lives through technology and this is another step in that direction”

Telemedicine is a technology that enables transmission of services including diagnostics remotely. Consultants from major medical centres can connect to the rural patients and also get information about the patients through online database by connecting through real time audio and video facilities.

Thus latest developments in medicine are made available to the villagers. The ECG facility provided at the Hospital is free of cost and any patient who comes undergoes the basic tests and if anything serious is suspected they make use of the ECG facility.

As a unique highlight of this pilot project the health centres were provided with audio and video transmission so that patient's records could be sent to the specialists at Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore. Using this data, the hospital specialists analyse the ECGs and provide consultation to the rural patients. More than 5000 patients have already benefited at Angodu Primary Health Centre and Harihara Taluk Hospital.

Eminent heart surgeon from Narayana Hrudayalaya Dr Devi Shetty informed, “Through our Tele ECG network hundreds of ECGs from inside and outside India can be diagnosed and thus we are able to save many lives by preventing heart attacks.”

This first of its kind initiative by Intel and other ecosystem players can potentially be helpful to millions of Indians as it proves to be economically viable for the rural population. When the project is extended to all the villages it can be a door opener for a healthy rural India.

Third flight chartered by UAE-based hotelier Praveen Shetty lands at Mangaluru Airport

Mangaluru, Jun 17: A private flight chartered by UAE-based NRI hotelier Praveen Shetty has brought home around 175 people from United Arab Emirates.

This is the third flight chartered by Mr Shetty, chairman of the Fortune Group of Hotels, and president of the Karnataka Non-Resident Indian Forum, to repatriate his employees and other stranded Kannadigas.

The Air Arabia flight with 168 adult passengers and six infants on board took off from Sharjah International Airport at 9:45 pm (UAE time) on June 16 and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 2:50 am Indian Standard Time on June 17.

BSY-Shah meet fails to break stalemate

Bengaluru, Jan 19: The long-awaited discussions on cabinet expansion finally took place between BJP national president Amit Shah and the state party unit on Saturday, but they produced no result.

Latest indications are that new members will be appointed only after CM BS Yediyurappa returns from Davos, Switzerland, on January 25.

The party held a close-door party meeting at a top hotel in Hubballi. The subject of expanding the cabinet, which currently has 16 vacancies, featured in the talks.

Earlier, Yediyurappa reportedly had a one-on-one with Shah during their 45-minute flight from Bengaluru to Hubballi. He is said to have insisted on accommodating all 11 newly MLAs in the cabinet. These legislators were earlier a part of Congress and JD(S); they contested the December byelections on BJP tickets and won.

This apart, BJP sources said, Yediyurappa and Shah had a brief chat at a private event at Palace Grounds . Separately, Shah, who is the Union home minister, held meetings with Jagadish Shettar, Laxman Savadi and Prahlad Joshi, seeking their views on cabinet expansion.

Shah also wanted to get an idea of what people think about the Yediyurappa government’s performance.

Newly elected MLAs Ramesh Jarkiholi, BC Patil and Srimanth Patil greeted Shah. “We only met him to wish him; we didn’t discuss the cabinet issue. That’s something state BJP members will do,” said Hirekerur legislator BC Patil.

Saturday’s deliberations fail to break the stalemate over the cabinet appointments. There are clear differences in the camp about whether all Congress-JD(S) defectors should be made cabinet members, according to a senior minister attended one such meeting.

Shah reportedly wants only seven to eight newly elected MLAs to be made ministers; the rest of the spots should go to BJP loyalists. Yediyurappa disagrees with this position as he had promised all 13 turncoats places in the cabinet. Two lost in the bypolls.

Shah has now asked Yediyurappa to visit Delhi after returning from Davos to finalise the composition of the cabinet, according to the sources.

Yediyurappa will leave for Davos early on Sunday, while Shah will fly directly to Delhi from Hubballi.

Muslim Committee drops Jan 4 anti-CAA protest plan as cops refuse permission

Mangaluru, Jan 2: The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi has dropped its plan to stage a massive protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens on January 4 at Mangaluru’s Nehru Maidan.

Addressing a press conference here today, committee chief K S Mohammed Masood made this announcement.

“All the 28 organisations that had decided to stage protest under the leadership of the Muslim Central Committee, have unanimously agreed to temporarily cancel the protest plan after the city police refused permission for the event,” he said.

Mr Masood requested the people, especially the youth, not to lose patience. “No one should head to Nehru Maidan on January 4 as Muslim leaders have unanimously decided to cancel the protest,” he urged.

S M Rasheed Haji, Y Abdulla Kunhi, Umar UH, Ibrahim Kodichal, B M Mumtaz Ali, Khasim H K, Mansoor Ahmed Azad and Asif Deals were present in the press meet.

Secondly, a few days back I wanted to contact Muslim central committee office to confirm if the protest Wil be there. I googled for the no, but the no. did not exist. Does that mean the Muslim central committee does not have an office or telephone no????

This only shows how organised we are.

Requesting Muslim central committee to get their house in order. Get more professional. Also consult people to utilise various platform to responsibly collect funds from so many ordinary bearys who want to donate money, but don't know whom to send it to.

We need an action committee to handle such situations. It must consist a battery of lawyers to fight the cases filed by the police.

If our leaders are old, they need to groom new leaders into the committee.

Moreover, it is important to question these so called leaders about their fecilitation program conducted for making kateel wen he won the election. Wat was the purpose of such fecilitation. Becoz I don't think he gives a damn when our community suffered. I question, whether all this is done in our name only to gain your contact and flourish ur business???
