Mangalore, November 20: Union Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily on Sunday reiterated that no stone would be left unturned to confer international tag on Mangalore Airport before it completes its diamond jubilee year on December 21.

Addressing media persons at 'meet the press' programme organised by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Union and Mangalore Press Club at Patrika Bhavan here, the Minister said that he had also held discussions with Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi in this direction.

Mr Moily said that a sum of Rs 60 crore has been sanctioned to Dakshina Kannada district under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutkaran Yojana (RGGVY) from the Central government.

He said that there was an urgent need to widen the national highways, train and port connectivity in Dakshina Kannada. He said a survey has been conducted to construct four lane stretches between Mangalore and Bangalore via Hassan. Roads from Kundapur-Surathkal-Talapady have already been completed. Agumbe to Udupi would also be included in national Highway network, he said.

A survey of Rs 175 crore has been done and the Centre asked state government to send report, he added.

Mr Moily said a container terminal at NMPT would be established providing fillip to downstream industries in the region.

Taking a dig at State government for power crisis Moily said presently 1,500 MW of power is available at Padubidri power plant, but, the government has failed to distribute this power providing proper transmission lines. “I have already contacted Chief Minister in this regard,” he said.

He dubbed LK Advani's Jan Chetna Yatra, as a personal agenda of the BJP veteran to fulfil his dream of becoming the Prime Minister.

"Advani's wish to become Prime Minister earlier failed. Now, he is trying to realise it by this yatra," he said.

Moily also alleged that Team Anna was behind the Yatra. "Advani is not a tall leader like Atal Behari Vajpayee," he pointed out.

Exporters Meet

He said that a state level exporters' meet would be held in second week of January focusing on all aspects of giving thrust to maximising exports from the state.

Hassan, Feb 9: Accusing the Centre for treating Karnataka as its enemy Former Minister and Congress leader UT Khader on Saturday said that the state did not get support from the Centre on the Mahadayi issue and flood relief and even the Union Budget.

Speaking to the media here, he said that the state has elected 25 BJP Lok Sabha members. Three from the state were Ministers in the Union Cabinet and another MP has been appointed president of the party’s state unit.

'None of them have spoken about the injustice done to the state in the budget. The budget document announced Rs 18,600 crore for the suburban railway in Bengaluru. But, ultimately the amount earmarked for the project is only Rs 1 crore. How can any BJP leader justify this?', the Congress leader wondered.

Bengaluru, Jun 27: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Saturday emphasised on giving a new dimension to the city by strengthening the infrastructure and improving various other sectors including health and housing.

He was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 108-feet-tall bronze statue of Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, at the Kempegowda International Airport near here. The statue would be built at a cost of Rs 66 crore in one-and-half years.

Yediyurappa said Bengaluru has earned the fame of Garden City and Silicon Valley of India. Noting that the state capital was one of the fastest-growing cities in the world and internationally acclaimed hub of information technology and biotechnology, he said, "We need to give a new dimension to this city and strengthen the infrastructure. We have to focus on health, housing, pollution control, traffic management. Our government has taken various measures to develop the city," the chief minister said.

On Kempe Gowda, Yediyurappa said though the city did not have a perennial river, he built hundreds of lakes and interconnected them. His water management reflects on his foresightedness, he added.

"Kempambudhi, Dharmambudhi, Sampaniram and Halasuru lake are among the major lakes gifted to the people of Bengaluru. He had set up the markets called Chickpet, Akkipet, Balepet, Kumbarpet, are still the major trade hubs," Yediyurappa said.

Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi, deputy chief ministers Govind Karjol, Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, Laxman Savadi and many other ministers were present on the occasion. The event was organised on the 511th birth anniversary of Kempe Gowda. Kempe Gowda was a chieftain of Vijayanagara dynasty who founded Bengaluru around 550 years ago.
