Reckless driving injures college girl; causes traffic jam

Mangalore, November 22: A college student was severely injured after being hit by a city bus at Lalbagh in the city on Monday.

The injured student has been identified as Deeksha, a resident of Anegundi, Bejai. She is a student of Canara College.

The reckless driving of the city bus driver also held up traffic for over an hour.

Mangalore West Traffic Police said the private bus, Shefali knocked down the student returning home from college in the evening.

The driver in a bid to overtake another bus, drove the bus in a negligent manner resulting in the accident.

Man hacks four family members to death in Manjeshwar

Manjeshwar, Aug 3: In a horrific incident, a man hacked four of his relatives to death at Bayar near Kaniala Gurukumeri in Manjeshwar taluk of Kasaragod district.

According to police, Udaya (40), a resident of Sudanbala, killed three of his maternal uncles and a maternal aunt who were staying together at a house at around 7:30 p.m. today.

The deceased have been identified as Sadashiv (54), Vittal (52), Babu (50), and maternal Revati (58).

Locals caught him and handed him over to the police after tying his hands and legs.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a familial clash led to the gruesome murder. A police team led by Kasargod DSP Balakrishnan are investigating the matter.

6,000 chickens buried alive in Belagavi as prices drop

Belagavi, Mar 10: Around 6,000 chickens were buried alive by some poultry farm owners here as the rate of flesh in the market dropped even below the cost price due to Coronavirus scare.

The poultry farm who buried the chickens on Monday evening belonged to Lolasuru village in Gokak Taluk of the district.

One of the owners, Nazir Makandar, said that there was no demand for chicken because of threat of Coronavirus.

Schoolboy dies of snakebite in Udupi

Udupi, Feb 5: A school boy died after being bitten by a venomous snake while he was returning home from a playground at Perdoor village in Udupi district.

The victim has been identified as Abhinav (9), son of Raju Shetty and Gita Shetty couple from the same village.

Abhinav had returned from school yesterday evening as usually. He then went out to play. At around 7 p.m. while he was walking towards home, a snake bit him sources said.

He was immediately taken to KMC Hospital in Manipal, where doctors pronounced him brought dead.

A case of unnatural death has been registered in the jurisdictional police station.
