Man arrested for allegedly killing his wife for money

Mangalore, November 26: Udupi town police have detained the husband in connection with mysterious death of his 25-year old wife Asma.

The arrested is Sajid, a daily wage labourer from Anandnagar in Hubli.

Asma, daughter of Umarabba and Halimamma couple from Kukkunduru in Karkala taluk, was given in marriage to Sajid nearly five years ago.

The police action comes after Asma's parents, who strongly believe that their daughter was killed by her husband for want of money, decided to fight for justice and lodged a complaint.

The elderly couple on Thursday night had received a phone call from Hubli from their daughter's in laws informing that Asma was in very serious condition.

According to Halimamma her daughter Asma was tortured by her husband Sajid for money and they always tried to fulfil his demand.


Umarabba and Halimamma who had rushed to Hubli expecting to get their daughter admitted to the hospital were shell-shocked to see the dead body of Asma. Her in-laws informed Umarabba that their daughter had consumed kerosene and phenyl.

And the worst part of the tragedy was that Hubli Police refused to register a case of suspicious death, following which Umarabba decided to bring the body of their daughter to Udupi for post mortem.

Asma's body contained injuries and assault marks.

Halimamma alleged that Sajid is an alcoholic and also had an extra marital affair. He wanted to take loan for unnecessary reasons and was forcing Asma to get loan sanctioned in her name. Asma was reluctant to support his demands despite the fact that her parents always wanted to support Sajid's demands for the sake of their daughter's Happiness. Asma was against the idea of giving more money to Sajid, she added.

Sajid always threatened Asma of killing their two little children Noor Banu (4) and Riyan(3). Umarabba and Halimamma now want their grandchildren back in their home to substitute the loss of their daughter's death. They are also determined to fight the cause till they get justice against their daughter's death.

Bengaluru, Jul 30: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) on Wednesday issued a notice restricting the sacrifice of animals during Bakrid or other religious occasions in certain places.

This year Eid al-Adha or Bakra eid will be celebrated on August 1.

"The administration has prohibited the sacrifice of animals in public roads, footpaths, inside or outside the premises of hospitals/nursing homes, schools and colleges, temples mosques, other religious places or public places," the BBMP said in a public notice.

Person or organisation violating the notice is liable to be prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, stated BBMP.

Bengaluru, May 27: Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Wednesday hit out at Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa-led Karnataka government for allegedly "betraying" the people by not fulfilling its Rs 1,610 crore COVID-19 package promise.

Taking a dig at Yediyurappa over the matter, the Congress leader tweeted, "Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa has betrayed people by not fulfilling his Rs 1,610 crore package promise. He seems to be following his @BJP4India leader @PMOIndia @narendramodi."

"Crisis and vulnerability should not be misused for political gains and BJP for India is insensitive towards the same," the former Karnataka Chief Minister said.

On May 6, Yediyurappa had urged migrant workers to stay back as construction activities have resumed and announced a Rs 1,610 crores COVID-19 financial package for the state.

"A package of Rs 1,610 crores will be released as COVID-19 financial relief. One time compensation of Rs 5,000 will be given to 2,30,000 barbers and 7,75,000 drivers," the Chief Minister said.

Referring to media reports, Siddarmiah cornered the state government for asking the licence to release funds for unorganised sector workers.

"How can we expect washermen and other unorganised sector workers to have licence for their work?" he asked.

It looks like Karnataka Chief Minister is very far from reality, he added.

Mangaluru, Apr 28:  Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Sindhu B Rupesh on Tuesday announced a relaxation in the sealed down parts of the district.

Seal-down in Bantwal's Sajipanadu, Belthangady Taluk's Karaya and Sullia Taluk's Ajjavara have been relaxed, he said.

The move comes on the backdrop of the fact that no positive cases have been reported in these places and all the primary and secondary contacts of the patients have completed their quarantine period.
