PFI demands reconstruction of Babri Masjid

Mangalore, December 6: Popular Front of India organised public programmes in the national capital and various parts of the country on the 19th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition demanding its reconstruction of the mosque on the same site.

In New Delhi, the dharna held at Jantar Mantar was attended by hundreds of people. PFI chairman E M Abdul Rahiman inaugurated the programme. Adv Bahar U Barqi of Supreme Court, Dr Anwarul Islam of Majlis-e-Mushawarah, SDPI Delhi State Convener Abdul Rasheed Agwan and the programme convener Moulana Kaleemullah Siddiqui, and other leaders belonging to different organisations address the gathering.

In a memorandum addressed to the President and Prime Minister of India, PFI, has pointed out that the immediate assurance given by the then prime minister P V Narasimha Rao to rebuild the mosque failed to materialize till now.

Only rebuilding the masjid on the same site would serve justice and restore the faith of millions of upright citizens of India, Muslims and non-Muslims, it said.

The memorandum also pointed out that all legal procedures related to the issue are still pending settlement. The case filed in 1961 related to ownership of the masjid and its premises is now before the Supreme Court of India after the controversial Allahabad High Court verdict to partition the land into three parts. The criminal case filed in 1992 against those who have demolished the Masjid is indefinitely delayed. The Central Government has not initiated any action on the recommendations of Justice Liberhan's Commission which enquired the events that led to the destruction of the masjid.

In a press release the organization has urged the government of India to expedite the proceedings of Supreme Court of India for a final verdict in the appeal cases of title suit pending against the controversial High Court verdict; to announce actions taken against those whom Justice Liberhan's Commission has found guilty in destructing Babri Masjid, and to initiate steps for a legislation by the Indian Parliament for rebuilding Babri Masjid on the same site where it stood earlier, since the ultimate solution to the problem lies in fulfilling the nation's commitment to justice.

Bengaluru, Feb 26: The police remand of student activist Amulya Leona Noronha, who was produced before a Magistrate, after a no-show at the Metropolitan Magistrate Court, was extended by 10 more days.

The Fifth Additional Metropolitan Magistrate at the Magistrate's home on Tuesday night had remanded her to police custody for 10 days, less than the 14 days asked for by the Special Investigative Team, considering that she has already spent over four days in judicial custody.

Amulya Noronha, a student of NMKRV College for Women, had raised pro-Pakistan slogans by shouting ''Pakistan Zindabad'' at an anti-CAA protest in Bangalore on 20th February following which the city police filed a case of sedition against her.

Chennai, July 27: Multi-lingual actress Vijayalakshmi, who attempted suicide yesterday, alleging harassment and bullying by followers of Naam Thamizhar party leader Seeman and Panankattu Padai’s Hari Nadar, is recuperating at a hospital in Chennai. 

Vijayalakshmi is known for films like Friends and Boss Engira Baskaran. She recently made headlines for speaking against Seeman and the torture she was allegedly facing from the actor-turned-politician and his party.

In the video which was uploaded on Sunday evening, Vijayalakshmi said, “This is my last video and I have been in tremendous stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his partymen. I tried my level best to survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar recently.”

She added, “I would like to tell fans who are watching the video just because I was born in Karnataka, Seeman has tortured me a lot. As a woman, I have put up with it to my highest capabilities. I won’t be able handle the pressure anymore. I am from the Pillai community, the same community LTTE leader Prabhakaran is part of. Prabhakaran is the only reason Seeman is who he is today, but now he has been harassing me on social media continuously. You slut shamed me to make me feel the pain and it is up to me to decide on what to do after facing such insults from you. I request my fans not to let Seeman get away from this case. He should never get anticipatory bail. My death should be a big eye-opener to everyone. I don’t want to be a slave to anybody.”

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs of Government of India today clarified to the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the so called “Love Jihad” is not defined under the extant laws and no such cases have been reported by any central agency.

It was ministry’s formal response to questions about whether the central government is aware of the observation of Kerala High Court that there is no case of Love Jihad in Kerala.

“The term ‘Love Jihad’ is not defined under the extant laws. No such case of ‘Love Jihad’ has been reported by any of the central agencies. However, two cases from Kerala involving interfaith marriages have been investigated by the NIA,” said the reply.

Communal and anti-Muslim political outfits backed by a section of media often use the term “Love Jihad” to accuse Muslims of marrying Hindu and Christian girls and then forcing them to change religion. Dr Hadiya’s conversion was also termed ‘love jihad’ by the BJP and media. The Supreme Court finally ruled that it wasn’t.

In January 2020, an influential Catholic Church in Kerala had said that “love jihad is a reality” and alleged that scores of women from Christian community from the southern state were being lured into the trap of Islamic State and used in terror activities.

The Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had welcomed the Church statement and called for a united fight against ‘Love Jihad’ in Kerala Society.

The response comes weeks after the MHA, responding to an RTI query, said it has "no information" concerning the 'Tukde Tukde Gang' -- a term that has been used a number of times by PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to attack opponents.

The RTI application was filed by activist Saket Gokhle on December 26 last year. In his RTI application, Saket Gokhle said Home Minister "Amit Shah addressed a public event in New Delhi, and in his address said, 'The Tukde Tukde Gang of Delhi needs to be taught a lesson and punished'." Gokhle's RTI asked for details of the 'Tukde Tukde Gang'.

The home ministry, in its reply to Saket Gokhle's RTI application, said, "Ministry of Home Affairs has no information concerning tukde-tukde gang."
