S Ramesh takes over as MUDA chairman

Mangalore, December 7: The Mangalore Urban Development Authority got a new Chairman on Wednesday.

S Ramesh, treasurer of Dakshina Kannada district unit of BJP, took over the reins for the next three years from outgoing chairman Madhav Bhandary, in the presence of BJP District President Padmanabha Kottari, VHP leader Prof M B Puranik and others at MUDA office here

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ramesh promised pro-people work during his tenure. Expressing his gratitude to State Government for appointing him to the post, he said, he would utilize his capacity to serve the people.

Mr Ramesh also pledged to use Comprehensive Development Plan in the right manner for a balanced development. There is a lot of potential for planned development in Mangalore, he said.

“I will support people with small pieces of land to build houses. There are lot of pending work to be completed and I will deliver my best,” he said.

He pointed out that basic necessities must be in place before the city develops its land scape. Government does not work only for the rich but even the poor must be able to build houses, he said.

Mr Ramesh has also been in business and is known to have begun the Shilpa Colour Lab and Roshan Industries.

Introducing Mr Ramesh, RSS leader Dr Vaman Shenoy said, the former is capable of doing his work without any fuss. Any common man can meet him and get his work done, he said.

Mr Puranik said the new MUDA Chairman has vast experience in social, religious and cultural fields. He is the right person in the right place, he said.

“Mangalore is a growing city and needs proper town planning. Ramesh is a kind of person who thinks how best he can be useful whenever some work is entrusted on him. Previously his contributions towards VHP and other organisations are immense,” he said.

The post of MUDA chairman was vacant ever since Mr Bhandary's term ended on November 17.

Mangaluru, Jun 2: Karnataka-Kerala border at Talapady is yet to be opened for traffic despite lifting lockdown. Only those, who have registered on ‘Seva Sindhu’ portal, are given one-time permission to enter the district.

With the relaxation of the lock-down many, especially the labour class, were anticipating free movement. However, both the States have not allowed free movement of vehicles. Hundreds of people from bordering villages of Kerala arrive in Mangaluru for work and likewise many from bordering villages of Mangaluru too work in Kasargod district.

It has become a routine for the labourers of both the States living in border villages to daily assemble at the check post in the morning and return after the authorities refuse free movement.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: As the stage is set for the ground-breaking ceremony for Ram temple construction at Ayodhya on Wednesday, retired Supreme Court judge N Santosh Hegde has called for the promotion of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence and respect for different faiths.

"It is a good idea to make that as an object of the temple so that there can be peace in the world," the former Solicitor General of India said when asked if the temple should be promoted as a symbol of national integration, and social and communal harmony.

Hegde said one of the most dangerous things for conflict today is religion. "In that background, there should be some effort from somebody or other to bring about peaceful coexistence, respecting each religion," the former Karnataka Lokayukta told PTI on Tuesday. "It is a good idea to start Bhumi Pujan as an indicator of that or foundation for developing harmony among various religions," he added.

The Supreme Court had in November last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple by a Trust at the disputed site of the Babri Masjid's demolition in Ayodhya. It also directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5- acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has allotted a five-acre land in Dhannipur village in Sohaval Tehsil of Ayodhya for the mosque's construction.

Bengaluru, Jul 2: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the "RSS needs to be defeated to save the country" and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are "destroying the nation".

Kharge was speaking at a KPCC program where DK Shivakumar took charge as state Congress president.

He said that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are not ready to take accountability for any issues including China, and are instead blaming Rajiv Gandhi Foundation of getting funds from China.

"Rajiv Gandhi foundation utilized funds for the development of the nation and for the betterment of the downtrodden people," Kharge said.

"Prime Minister Modi and Shah both are destroying the economy of the nation, and their policies and plans are the reason for increasing COVID-19 situation in India," he said.

"Prime Minister and Amit Shah never listen to Opposition parties, instead they plan something and their policies are the reason for MSME losses and job losses in the country," he added.
