Harekala Hajabba to inaugurate Beary Sahitya Sammelana

Mangalore, December 7: Illiterate Harekala Hajabba, who is popularly known as 'Akshara Santha' will be the centre of attraction at the fifth Beary Sahitya Sammelana, scheduled to be organized by Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy in the city on December 10 and 11.

Giving details about the literary conference at a press meet here on Wednesday, M B Abdul Rahman, the chairman of the Academy, said that Mr Hajabba would inaugurated the two day event on December 10 at 10:00 am at Town Hall, by releasing five literary works on Beary language, culture and community.

The five new titles are 'Perime', an edited research work, 'The Bearys of Tulunadu' by Prof. B M Ichlangodu, 'Tulunadina Byarigalu', translated by Tufail Mohammed, 'The Beary Language', by Dr Sushila P Upadyaya, and 'Beary Baashe, translated by Dr Sushila P Upadyaya. The books will be introduced by Abdul Raheem, Founder of Kendra Beary Sahithya Parishad, he said.

Mr Rahman said, Mr Hajabba would also be conferred with the tittle 'Akkarada Avadhoota' in recognition of his contribution towards the field of literacy.

Mr Rahman said, soon after the book releasing session, B A Mohideen, former Education Minister, would inaugurate the exhibition, food mela and book stalls on the premises of Town Hall as part of the literary meet.

An interactive session on the topic 'Apprehensions of Beary Life' will commence at 11 am under the presidentship of Umar Teeke Bangalore, in which Atthur Cheyabba will present his views. Hamid Palya, Current Affairs Editor of 'Suvarna News 24 X 7' will be the host.

Over a dozen achievers from Beary community including Abdul Rauoof Puthige, builder and social worker, B M Basheer, journalist, Dr Kaup Mohammed, educationist will be felicitated on the same day.

A poets' meet will be held at 4:30 pm under the presidentship of writer Ayisha U K Ullal. As the last programme of the first day of the convention, 'Mahasabha' a Beary comedy directed by Hussain Katipalla will be staged at 6.30 pm, Mr Rhaman said.

The second day of the literary meet will start with 'Face to Face with Litterateurs' under the presidentship of award winning writer Vaidehi at 10:00 am. Dr Na D'Souza, Dr Jayanth Kaikini and P Sheshadri will be among the participants.

A team led by Appagere Thimmaraju will present Kannada folk songs at 1:30 pm. The valedictory ceremony will commence at 3.30 pm under the presidentship of B A Mohideen. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, who will be present as chief guest among others will be given a warm felicitation on the occasion, said Mr Rahman.

Dr Sushila P Upadyaya, Prof B M Ichlangodu, Abdul Azeez Baikampady and Hamza Malar were present at the press meet.

Udupi, May 23: Five more persons tested positive for coronavirus in the coastal district of Udupi today. 

They include three men aged 37, 55, 31 and two women aged 48 and 34. 

Among them four are returnees from Mumbai and one is foreign returnee.

With this the total number of covid-19 cases in the district rose to 55.

Bengaluru, Feb 10: Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Sunday hit out at the BJP and RSS for taking out a route march in Ramanagara against the controversial Jesus Christ statue.

“Just because the BJP won 25 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, Congress workers need not lose hope. If the Congress and JD(S) had worked out a better strategy, the BJP would not have won even 10 seats. We will correct our mistakes,” the former Congress minister said.

After the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has failed to do well in assembly polls and has been losing power in many states. People are hitting the streets protesting against its policies such as CAA and NRC, he said.

Accusing the BJP and RSS of not being able to digest Congress’ victory in the Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha segment in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, he said that the BJP is trying hard to make inroads into the constituency represented by his brother D K Suresh. “Let them take out route march, we don’t care,” he said.

“We all know what the BJP did during the Lok Sabha elections, and the media reported how much money they spent in the elections. What was the Election Commission doing? Was the Income Tax Department sitting with its eyes closed? Why did they conduct raids only in Hassan, Shivamogga and Mandya districts,” he asked.

He alleged that false cases were slapped when him and other leaders, including H D Kumaraswamy, Siddaramaiah, G Parameshwara and Dinesh Gundurao.

Bengaluru, Jul 5: A total number of 32 SSLC students, who took exams between June 25 and July 3 have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Eighty other students are in home quarantine. As per a press release from the Karnataka government here as of July 3, more than 7.60 lakh students wrote the exam, with 14,745 absentees. The report from the government stated that 3,911 students did not attend the exams as they were in a containment zone. A total of 863 students had not attended the exams as they were unwell.

Last week, a Class 10 student from Hassan had tested coronavirus positive. The student reportedly wrote an exam on June 25, despite having taken the coronavirus test. His positive result reportedly came shortly after he finished writing the exam.
