Mangalore, December 13: Refusing to impose a ban on the casteist ritual of 'Made-Made-Snana' being practiced at government-run Kukke Subrahmanya Temple in Sullia Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, Muzrai Minister V S Acharya said that the government would bring together various groups to find a 'suitable solution' to the issue.

Making a statement on the issue after elaborate discussion in the Legislative Council, Mr Acharya claimed that there was nothing wrong in his stance on the practice.

He also reiterated that the media had been training guns on the Muzrai department only after he became the minister. “They have nothing new to write about. Hence the sensationalism. The media has only been misguiding the people. We will never be dictated by any agenda,” he said, adding that the government was keen to address the issue.

“We are in the world of nano technology. But the reactions to antigen-antibody are yet to be properly understood. The subject of immunology is vast and it is an unknown package. 'Made-Made-Snana' seems inhuman to most of us. But there is a native belief that rolling on other people's saliva may work as an antibody and serve as a cure for the illness.”

Leader of the opposition in the Council, Motamma, had earlier attacked the government for allowing the belief, which she termed, an inhuman act.

Deadline

Meanwhile, Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruthi Vedike president K S Shivaramu urged the government to ban the 'Made-Made-Snana before December 30.

Addressing a press meet in Mysore on Monday, he said If the government failed to do so, the Vedike would take out out a padayatra from Bangalore to Udupi, through Kukke Subramanya in January, with the blessing of Nidumamidi Mahasamsthana Mutt Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamiji.

He said that in the name of tradition, devotion and God, thousands of innocent people are exploited in religious places. The 'Made-Made-Snana' where Dalits roll on soiled leaves used by Brahmins is against humanitarianism, and such evil practices are a threat to the society, he said.

The government should ban 'Made Snana' like other evil practice such as sati, naked service, devadasi, child marriage etc, he urged.

Bengaluru, Apr 7: Former Minister and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramiah on Tuesday termed the shutting by private clinics in the state by doctors as an 'inhuman act'.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Congress leader said due to the fear of Novel Coronavirus, the doctors have closed their private clinics, which was against their profession.

This has affected the people, especially those, who are suffering from other deceases. He urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to intervene and resolve the issue immediately.

Despite the government instructions not to close down their clinics, the doctors have not been responding positively, Mr Siddaramaiah noted.

In this connection, the government should act seriously and give necessary warning to the doctors, to either open their clinics to serve the people, or face action, he added.

United Nations, Jul 25: UN report on terrorism has warned that there are “significant numbers” of ISIS terrorists in Kerala and Karnataka, noting that the al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent terror group, which reportedly has between 150 and 200 militants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, is planning attacks in the region.

The 26th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team concerning ISIS, al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities said that the al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operates under the Taliban umbrella from Nimruz, Helmand and Kandahar provinces of Afghanistan.

“The group reportedly has between 150 and 200 members from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistan. The current leader of AQIS is Osama Mahmood…, who succeeded the late Asim Umar… AQIS is reportedly planning retaliation operations in the region to avenge the death of its former leader,” it said.

According to the report, “One member state reported that the ISIL Indian affiliate (Hind Wilayah), which was announced on May 10, 2019, has between 180 and 200 members”.

It said that there are “significant numbers of ISIL operatives in Kerala and Karnataka states.”

In May last year, the Islamic State (also known as ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) terror group claimed to have established a new "province" in India, the first of its kind announcement that came after clashes between militants and security forces in Kashmir.

The dreaded terror outfit, through its Amaq News Agency, had said that the Arabic name of the new branch is "Wilayah of Hind" (India Province).

A senior Jammu and Kashmir police officer had rejected the claim.

Previously, ISIS attacks in Kashmir were linked to its so-called Khorasan Province branch, which was set up in 2015 to cover "Afghanistan, Pakistan and nearby lands".
