ATM loot: Cops in touch with Tamil Nadu counterparts

Mangalore, December 17: The City police have informed their counterparts in Tamil Nadu to disclose the actual identity and background of four accused, who were arrested for robbing Rs 25 lakh from the van of a security agency, which maintains the ATMs of State Bank of India (SBI).


The daring daylight robbery had occurred at Hampankatta on Thursday. The accused had managed to rob the chest containing Rs 25 lakh from the van of Pro-Interactive Services (PIS) while their personnel were loading cash to a SBIATM.


Mangalore north police inspector Vinay Gaonkartold TOI that they have already sent the details of the four accused to Rajajinagar police station inTiruchirapalli district of Tamil Nadu.


"We will collect information from them and if required, will take them to Tamil Nadu for further investigation. We are also trying to find whether the accused were involved in any other cases in the state or Tamil Nadu. So far they did not reveal anything about their past," he said.


It was one of the accused, 51 year-old P Mahindran, who diverted the attention of PIS van driver after dropping Rs 10 note near the van.


Mahindran was assigned the job of diverting the attention of driver. Van driver did not suspect when an elderly person showed him the money lying on the ground.
All the four accused including V Shridhar (35), Murali Logu (31) and P Hariharan (27) hails from Tiruchirapalli district, Gaonkar added.

Bengaluru, Jun 24: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa was all praise for a sixth standard student from Kallianpur in Udupi district for joining the fight against COVID-19 by stitching Face Masks with one hand for SSLC students writing examination beginning from Thursday.

Mr Yediyurappa took to Twitter and wrote, “Proud of this young COVID warrior Sindhuri. Her smile as she stitches that mask inspires all of us to go beyond our limitation and strengthens us to fight this battle together. God bless you!”

Sindhuri, daughter of Sudhir and Renuka is currently studying in the sixth standard in Mount Rosary school and Bulbul in Scouts and Guides as well.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday inaugurated a mobile Covid-19 testing booth in Bengaluru.

These mobile booths will be used in all wards of Bengaluru to collect samples of those suspected to be infected.

According to information available on the website of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as of Thursday, 4:00 PM, 279 coronavirus cases have been reported from the state, with 80 cured/discharged/migrated and 12 deaths.

India's coronavirus tally is at 12,380 cases, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

Kasaragod, Jul 19: An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Prevention) Act (POCSO) killed self minutes before being shifted to the jail on Sunday.

Police sources said the criminal, Shaiju, was admitted to Covid-19 observation ward after he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody after he was charged with a case under POCSO for unnatural sex with a neighbour boy recently.

The accused had made a similar attempt last month but was implicated in a case after his treatment.
