Kushbir Kaur sets new record at inter-university athletic meet

Moodbidri, December 21: Kushbir Kaur, a student of from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, set a new meet record on the third-day of action in the 5000 metres walk for women in the 72 nd All India inter-university athletics championships here.

Kushbir clocked 23:33.31 minutes to better the old meet record of 24:18.70 set by Manju Shah of MG University, Kottayam in 2008. Even Sowmya B of MG University bettered Manju's mark clocking 23:41.25 to grab silver.

Shruthi K C from Bangalore University clocked 4:35:27 to win the gold in 1,500 m run event.

In the team event, Delhi University won the gold in 4x100 relay event by clocking 42.07. In the women's category, MDU Rohtak won the gold in 4x100 relay by clocking 48.40.

The winners on the fourth day of the event include Kripal Singh (Pujabi university, 2kg discus throw; 53.82m), Nethumol Bose (MG University, Kottayam long jump; 6.09 m), J Preeth (Ann University of technology, pole vault; 4.60m) chyerram Naidu (Osamania University, Hydrabad, 1500m run; 3:59.25), Sharmila Dey (university of Culcutta, 4 kg shotput, 12.78m) and Purnima Hembram (Punjabi University Patiala Heptathlon ; 4873)

Bengaluru, Mar 31: The total number of positive cases of coronavirus reached 101 in Karnataka on Tuesday after 13 more positive cases were reported in the state from March 30 5 pm to 2 pm today.

The total number of 101 includes three deaths and 8 discharged/cured cases, Karnataka Health Department stated.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 1,397 after 146 new patients were reported in the last 24-hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.

Of this little less than 1,400 cases, there are 1,238 active while 124 cured. The total figure also includes 35 fatalities.

Mangalore, Feb 4: Final chance to present evidence and record eyewitness statements with the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi G Jagadeesh regarding the December 19 violence will be held on February 6 between 1100 and 1300 hrs.

Eyewitness and evidence presenters can depose at the Assistant’s Commissioner’s Court Hall in the Mini Vidhan Soudha in the city.

The Deputy Commissioner said that no evidence would be accepted after this last round of public hearing.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: The Karnataka government on Saturday issued an order, directing private hospitals not to deny treatment to patients with coronavirus and COVID-19 like symptoms.

"Non-compliance of this order will attract punishment under sections of Disaster Management Act 2005," an order read.

Meanwhile, people coming from Maharashtra will be placed in seven-day institutional quarantine followed by seven-day home quarantine in Karnataka, the state government said.

People coming from other states will need to undergo 14-day home quarantine.
