Manipal, December 25: Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Sunday inaugurated the District Offices Complex here, which brings 43 government departments and the zilla panchayat under a single building.

The complex has been constructed on 12 acres of land at a cost of Rs. 30 crore. Speaking after inaugurating the complex, he said the BJP government was committed to providing services to people, who would not have to go through bureaucratic or political redtapism.

The Udupi District Offices Complex was the first in the State to be a paperless office. The complex was fully computerised. It was a model for the entire State. He said the staff shortage in the district administration would be solved soon as the Government had had decided to sanction filling of 50 posts, the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Gowda said the government had passed the Karnataka Guarantee of Services to Citizens Bill in the recently concluded Assembly session. This measure would provide guarantee of 152 services to the people. Normally, there were complaints of either bureaucrats or bureaucrats along with politicians not wanting to provide services to the people.

This measure would put an end to any high-handed behaviour either by bureaucrats or politicians.

Mr. Gowda said a demand had been made to construct a bridge at Havanje-Kolalgiri as it would reduce the distance between villages surrounding Brahmavar to Udupi by 16 km. A detailed project report would be prepared for the bridge. Funds for the bridge would be allocated in the next fiscal budget, Mr. Gowda said. Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya,Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar, Chairman of the Third Finance Commission Implementation Task Force A.G. Kodgi, MLAs Raghupati Bhat, Lakshminarayana and Gopal Bhandary, MLCs Kota Srinivas Poojary and Ganesh Karnik, were present.

The Chief Minister later chaired a meeting of the district administration in the presence of district incharge minister Mr. Acharya, MLAs and MLCs from the district.

Arrested

Meanwhile, police thwarted an attempt by the Janata Dal (Secular) workers to wave black flags to the Chief Minister.

The police took the party workers into preventive custody and released them after the inaugural function.

President of district unit of JD(S) Deviprasad Shetty condemned the police action as undemocratic. The JD(S) has been opposing the setting up of the District Offices Complex in Manipal, which is eight km away from Udupi and “inconvenienced ordinary people”.

Bengaluru, Jan 15: Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Bengaluru has decided to remain shut for two days after a group of BJP workers wiped out graffiti on its outer walls claiming it as anti-Modi and allegedly warned them against any anti CAA agitation there.

According to sources, the group led by Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath allegedly even towed away some vehicles of students and faculty parked in front of the institute alleging that they were blocking the road and causing inconvenience to the local people.

Some students have alleged that they were threatened by BJP workers and also the institute's authorities regarding the graffiti and the blocking of the road using traffic police.

They even claimed that BJP workers warned them against organising any anti-NRC or CAA protests.

A few local residents are also said to have joined the BJP workers and raised complaints about the conduct of the institute's students.

According to local BJP workers, the MLA and a few party men had gone near the institute on receiving complaints from locals about vehicles parked there blocking the road, and when they came across the graffiti they painted it with saffron paint to avoid any controversy, and there was no altercation as being alleged.

However, there is no clarity on who drew the graffiti regarding Modi, which according to BJP workers allegedly depicted the PM in poor light.

The institute has declared holiday on Thursday and Friday to avoid any further escalation, keeping the interest and safety of students in mind, sources said.

Interestingly, on Tuesday graffiti had appeared overnight on the shutters of some shops and walls on the Church Street against Modi, CAA and NRC, following which the city police have launched an investigation.

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former union minister and Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Wednesday said that if at all there is a political future for Sachin Pilot it is in the Congress party.

While speaking to news agency, Moily said Sachin Pilot achieved everything by being in Congress party.

"Sachin Pilot became MP, union minister in UPA-II, PCC president in Rajasthan and Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Whatever grievances you have, it needs to be resolved within the forum of the party. There is no hurry for Sachin Pilot. If at all there is a future for him it is in the Congress party. He has to realise that. He says he won't join BJP, it is good," Moily said.

The former Union Minister Moily further said that Pilot could not become Chief Minister as in Congress, the high command sends an observer and opinion of MLAs is ascertained, be it in Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan.

"The leader who enjoys the support of elected MLAs is made Chief Minister," Moily said.
On July 14, Congress party had sacked Sachin Pilot from the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and also from PCC president.

The Rajasthan Congress is in turmoil over the past few days. State Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has blamed the BJP for attempting to destabilise the state government by poaching MLAs. The Congress government in the state is facing a political crisis after simmering differences between Pilot and Ashok Gehlot came out in the open.

A controversy broke out in Rajasthan after Special Operation Group (SOG) sent a notice to Pilot to record his statement in the case registered by SOG in the alleged poaching of Congress MLAs in the state.
