Mangalore, December 30: Notorious for its strong current, the Tannirbavi beach on the outskirts of the city on Friday claimed two more lives.
15 year old Haren D'Souza and his 58 year old uncle William D'Souza were washed away in the high tide at around 4:00 pm, when they were playing in the waters.
The duo had been to beach along with their relatives and friends to enjoy the evening. It is said that William was washed away when he tried to rescue his nephew, who had drowned before his own eyes.
No life guards or expert-swimmers were present at the spot during the incident, sources said.
The fire brigade had rushed a team, after receiving a distress call, but, only to recover two dead bodies.
The bodies have been shifted to AJ Hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered at Panambur police station.
