Adichunchanagiri birth anniversary to attract 50, 000 people: Kalladka Bhat

Mangalore, January 3: The 68th birth anniversary of Balaganghadharanatha Swamiji of Shri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Mutt will be celebrated at Abhiman Green Lawns, backyard of BGS School in the city on January 28.

Announcing this at a press meet, Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, the honorary president of the district reception committee of the event, revealed that a Rath Yatra would also be conducted as a prelude to the celebration. Over 50, 000 people will participate in the celebration, he said.

He said 'Shri Bhyraveshwara Jyothi Rath Yatra', to be launched on January 26 at Sri Adichunchanagiri Kshetra, would arrive in the city on January 27 at 4:30 pm after passing through Hassan, Sakleshpur, Dharmasthala and Uppinangadi. It will be received in a grand manner on January 28, he said.

As a part of the event, a new girls' hostel will be inaugurated at Kavoor while stone laying ceremony will be performed for BGS PU College, which will be built using Rs three crores, he said.

Mr Bhat said that the Adichunchanagiri mautt has also decided to distribute books worth Rs 10,000 for the schools with 100 per cent result in previous academic year. Along with this special cycles for physically disabled, electric sticks for blind, hearing aid for deaf will be distributed, he informed.

Shri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana branch mutt Seer Sri Dharmapalanatha Swamiji, District Festival Committee Convener Nalin Kumar Kateel and District BJP President Padmanabha Kottary were present at the press meet.

Bengaluru, May 11: Ten new positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Karnataka, taking the total number of infections in the state to 858, the Health department said on Monday.

"Ten new positive cases have been reported from last evening to this noon... Till date 858 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed. This includes 31 deaths and 422 discharges," the department said in its mid-day situation update. 

The ten new cases include- three from Davangere, two each from Bidar and Bagalkote, one each from Kalaburagi, Shiggavi in Haveri and Vijayapura. Seven cases are men, three are women.

While most cases are contacts of patients already tested positive, one each are with travel history to Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

One person's contact tracing is underway.

Tirumala, Jul 16: As many as 14 priests of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) were tested positive for COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, said Anil Kumar Singhal, Executive officer, TTD.

Singhal also held a meeting with temple priests, health and vigilance officials today.

On July 14, Singhal held 'Dial your EO' programme at TTD administrative building conference hall wherein the EO addressed the devotees and media and informed that 91 TTD employees have tested positive for COVID-19 till date.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the state has reported 35,451 COVID-19 cases including, 16,621 active cases, 18,378 recovered and 452 deaths so far.

Bengaluru, Apr. 10: Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Thursday appealed to party workers to save the lives of people of the state and show solidarity with the people in need amid the coronavirus lockdown.

"Humble appeal to Congress party workers that the time has come to do our best to save the lives of people of Karnataka. Hospitals across Karnataka are running short of blood. This is a call for able-bodied to volunteer & donate blood. Let us show solidarity with people in need," Shivakumar tweeted.

With 16 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed cases in Karnataka reached 197 on Thursday, according to the state's Health Department.

India's total COVID-19 cases rose to 5,865 on Thursday, with 591 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
