National Youth Awards to be conferred on 35 young achievers

Mangalore, January 3: As many as 35 young achievers would be conferred with the prestigious 'National Youth Awards' during the 17th National Youth Festival, which will be held from January 12 to 16, said Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda.

He said that the State and Union governments have already released Rs 5 crore and Rs 2 crore respectively for taking up necessary arrangement for the mega event, which would attract over 5,000 youth from across the country including Union Territories.

The DC said the preparations for the Youth Festival were guided by as many as 400 officials from Nehru Yuva Kendra, 18 top officials from the Centre and 25 officials from the State government.

Mr Gowda said that that the demand for synthetic track at Mangala Stadium would be met utilizing the pending amount of the Youth Festival and the foundation for the synthetic track would be laid during the valedictory of the five –day event.

Various competitions of Yuvajanotsava will be held at Town Hall, T M A Pai Convention Centre, Devadigara Bhavana in Mannagudda, SDM Law College, Kudroli Koragappa Kalyana Mantapa and Gokarnanatheshwara hall in Kudroli.

The Youth Festival will be inaugurated on January 12 at 5 pm at Mangala Stadium. The youth who come from different parts of the country will be entertained with 'Celebrity Nights' at Mangala Stadium from January 13 to 15 from 7 pm.

On January 13—Hariharan and Leslie Louise will enthrall the participants. On January 14—Euphoria, On January 15—Shivamani, Kadri Gopalnath, Praveen Godkhindi and Narasimha Vadavatti will perform. Vasundhara Das will perform on January 16.

He said as part of Youth Festival, food festival and 'Yuva Krithi' will be held at Karavali Utsav grounds, grounds sports at Nehru Maidan, water sports at Panambur beach.

The special attraction of the Youth Festival will be boat race at Panambur beach on January 14, beach volleyball and throw ball on January 15. Kambala and flower show will be held at Pilikula on January 15.

Mangaluru, Apr 22: A team of officials raided the Big Bags International Pvt Ltd premises here on Tuesday following the apprehensions expressed by locals that the company has violated lockdown rules by resuming operations on April 20.

On Monday several workers of the firm from Kerala, Tumakuru and Bengaluru were reported to be at the premises to resume operations.

The raiding team asked the management to temporarily shut down operations and asked the workers to leave the place.

Mangaluru, May 13: Dakshina Kannada today recorded its fourth death due to novel coronavirus.

The victim, identified by number P-536, is a 58-year-old woman from Boloor area of Manglauru. She was tested covid-19 positive on April 30. 

A patient with TB meningitis, the woman had been treated and discharged from Mangaluru’s First Neuro Hospital, which has emerged as covid-19 hub of coastal Karnataka.

In hospital she had reportedly come in contact with patient No 501 who worked as a sweeper in the same hospital. 

With this death, the number of active covid-19 cases reduced to 16 in Dakshina Kannada. The district has so far reported 34 covid-19 cases including four deaths. 14 have been discharged.

Bengaluru, Mar 27: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Friday formed a task force to monitor the spread of COVID-19 disease in the state and provide guidelines and suggestions to contain its proliferation in the state.

In a press release, the KPCC has stated that the 15 member committee will be headed by the senior Congress leader and former Health minister K R Rameshkumar also included two other former health ministers, Shivanand Patil and U T Khader as the members of the committee.
