CM trying to turn Dakshina Kannada into republic of Sangh Parivar'

January 4, 2012

Mangalore, January 4: Coming down heavily on Bharatiya Janata Party led Karnataka government, former union minister B Janardhan Poojary accused the Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda of trying to turn the coastal district into a republic of Sangh Parivar. He was addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.

Blaming the CM for suspension of four policemen and sudden transfer of Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police, following the police action on miscreants of Sangh Parivar, who had attacked Sullia police station, Mr Poojary said that Mr Gowda not only made the police department inactive but also strengthened the hands of 'moral police' in this region.

Expressing solidary with the policemen, who were “suspended for sincerely discharging their duty”, Mr Poojary said the Director General of Police should be ashamed for working to protect the interest of Sangh Parivar by punishing sincere police personnel for no fault of theirs. “There is no meaning in the existence of DGP, if his duty is confined to save his chair by supporting the Sangh Parivar”, he said.

Dubbing the allegation of 'police atrocity on Hindu activists', Mr Poojary said those police personnel who arrested the Sangh Parivar miscreants for pelting stones at police station had discharged their duty sincerely.

“No one can justify the heinous act of Sangh Parivar men, who threw stones at police station, after the Sullia police allowed the two men and two women who were illegally brought by the miscreants, to leave the police station as the four people had not committed any offence. It was the duty of police to arrest the trouble mongers”, he said.

“However, following the incident Sangh Parivar leaders openly pledged to take revenge against the policemen without any hesitation. And finally they did it by exerting pressure on DGP through chief minister”, he said.

Mr Poojary also demanded the withdrawal of suspension order of a Circle Inspector, a Sub Inspector and two Constables to restore the dignity of police department.

New Delhi: BJP leader Yogish Gowda, who was a member of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayath in Karnataka, was killed because of "political reasons", the CBI has alleged in its charge sheet filed against eight accused before a Dharwad court, officials said on Thursday.

Mr Gowda was killed on June 15, 2016 in front of a gym in Dharwad.

The charge sheet was filed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court in Dharwad against Santosh Savadatti, Dinesh M, Sunil KS, Harshith, Aswath S, Nazeer Ahamad, Shanawaz and Nutan K. All but one are in judicial custody.

"The accused allegedly came to Dharwad on two occasions in June 2016 and with the support of the other accused, allegedly planned the murder of Yogish Gowda. These accused fled after the crime," CBI spokesperson RK Gaur said.

The agency has alleged that the killing had "political reasons" behind it and was a result of political rivalry, the officials said.

The agency had taken over the case on September 24, 2019, nearly three years after the murder, on the request of the BJP government in Karnataka and a referral from the centre.

The case was earlier probed by the Karnataka Police which had charged six people for allegedly planning and executing the killing.

The CBI has arrested eight accused in the case of which seven are in judicial custody, they said.

"Further investigation into the role of the other accused and larger conspiracy in this case is continuing on a day-to-day basis," Mr Gaur said.
