Moodubelle gears up for `Kavita Fest 2012'

Udupi, January 4: 'Mudartha House', the courtyard of the late Monnu Master at Kattingeri, Moodubelle in Udupi, is bustling with activity in preparation for the `Kavita Fest 2012' which will be held on Sunday, January 8.

This is the sixth time `Kavita Fest' is being held in succession in different parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. This year's `Kavita Fest' is being organised by Kavita Trust in association with Bellevision, an organization of people of Moodubelle working in the Middle East and Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.

The hosts of Kavita Fest 2012 are Regina D'Souza and Bernard D'Souza, Moodubelle. Kavita Fest is being organized every year by “Kavita Trust”, which has been working steadfastly for the promotion of Konkani poetry.

This year's Kavita Fest has an additional cause of celebration considering that the President of the Trust, Konkani Poet Melvyn Rodrigues has been chosen for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his book “Prakrithicho Paas” (collection of poems). Naturally there is lot of excitement among the local organizers of the fest at Moodubelle and among Konkani poets and littérateurs and it has given a special aura for the Fest.

Delegates from Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore, Mysore, Kerala and from the Middle East are expected to take part in the Kavita Fest.

The day-long Kavita Fest will be held from 10 am to 8 pm and will be inaugurated at 10 am by Ramesh Veluskar, eminent Konani poet. Dr Kiran Budkuley, Associate Professor of English, University of Goa, will be the Chief Guest for the evening stage programme. Lavita Monteiro and Rohan Monteiro of Property Infra Tech India Pvt Ltd., will be the Guests of Honour for the Fest along with the hosts Regina and Bernard D'Souza.

Release of books of poetry collections - Aruna Rao's 'Sakshatkar' and Sannu Monis' “Abolim”, prize distribution of the winners of the late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues Memorial All India Poetry Writing Competition, presentation of Mathias Family Poetry Award 2011 to Shivananda Shenoy of Kottayam, Rohan and Lavita Monteiro - All India Konkani Poetry Recitation Competition, a multi-lingual poetry session, symposium and folk dance by Ranjit Gogoi and Group from Assam are the highlights of this year's Kavita Fest.

The symposium on 'poetry and art' will be held at 10:30 am and the speakers will be William Pais and Rakhi Amonkar which will be moderated by Sridhar Kamat Bambolkar.

This will be followed by poetry reciting competition. The afternoon session will begin with multi-lingual poetry session and poets Muddu Moodubelle, B A Mohammed Ali, Sannu Monis, Bhotam Boliye, Dr Eugene D Souza, Guru Baliga, Shobha Fulkar, P J Karugalnade, Kavita D Fondekar, Milan Vaingankar will participate in the session, which will be moderated by Rajay Pawar. This will be followed by stage programme at 4.30 pm. There will be a special folk performance of Bihu songs and dance performed by a group from Assam under the banner “Loka- the many Voices”, which is sponsored by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.

Young poet Eric Soans will be the Master of Ceremony for the Fest.

Bellevision, which has joined Kavita Trust to organize the `Kavita Fest 2012', has been working zealously to make the Kavita Fest a grand event befitting its growing stature and popularity. They have formed an organizing committee to share the responsibility pertaining to the preparations for the Fest. Ronald Saby D'Souza, Dr Eugene D Souza, Meera Lobo, Anil Alva, Subhash Marne, Valerian Alva, Elias D'Souza, Peter Paul Lobo and Raphael Aranha are the members of the organizing committee who are working enthusiastically to make this Kavita Fest 2012 a splendid event. The enthusiasm of the organizers, the events of the Fest, the kindness of the hosts and perfect environment of Moodubelle - are sure to make Kavita Fest 2012, an event to remember.

Food will be provided for poetry enthusiasts attending the Fest. Accommodation arrangements are made for delegates coming from distant places like Mumbai, Goa, Kerala, Bangalore and other states at the venue. Mangaluru, May 19: Team Be Human, a city based group of philanthropists, has taken commendable initiative to satiate the hunger of the civic workers of Mangaluru City Corporation that are endangering their lives to keep the city clean amidst covid-19 lockdown. 

On Friday, April 18, gorcesary kits were distributed among around 180 civic workers at Eidgah Maidan in Light House Hill in the presence of Corporator Abdul Raoof Bajal, Mansoor Ahmed Azad, Aina group Ashraf, Ceco Asif, Advocate Abdul Shukoor, U B Saleem, Sahil Zaheer, Rash Beary, Munna Kammaradi and Abdul Muttalib.

The Team swung into action on hearing the civic workers' plight due to the delay in payment of their wages by the Antony Waste Management firm. The Team was helped by the alumni of the St Aloysius College, Mangaluru (batch 1989). 

This is not the first time the Team Be Human distributing kits among the needy. Amidst lockdown it has already distributed around 1200 grocery kits among the poor people including the daily wage workers, migrant labourers in Dakshina Kannada district with help of Ahnaf Deals, Altaf, Shameem, Basha, Pradeep, Vincent,  Shiyaz Deals, Nawaz and Haneef. 

In its next step the Team Be Human is planning to distribute the kits among civic workers in Urva and Suratkal region, said Asif Deals, founder president of Team Be Human. He called upon the youth and students to come forward to help the needy and poor people who are deprived of basic facilities.

Mangaluru, Apr 7:  In the wake of COVID-19 lockdown in the country, a delegation from Highland Islamic Forum, Mangalore headed by Rizwan Pandeshwar, HIF Ration Kit Co-coordinator met Mangalore South Constituency MLA Mr. Vedavysa Kamath, Mayor Mr. Diwakar and MCC  Opposition Leader Mr. Abdul Ravoof on 6th April with an aim to join their hands with our local authorities in a bid to serve the daily wage earning families in and around Mangalore, during this emergency period. HIF delegation included Secretary Ausaf Hussain, Executive members Nazim SS, Adel Parvez, Nabeel Kudroli and Saleem Makkah.

HIF delegates handed over 300 COVID-19 Emergency relief ration kits to these local authorities, of which 100 each will be distributed to the poor in their respective areas among all faiths irrespective of caste or religion. The ration kits included grocery items and other essential commodities.

HIF Delegation said that Highland Islamic Forum is a prestigious charitable organization in Mangalore operating in the undevided D.K. District since last 8 years offering their hands to the poor and needy families of all faiths like food for the orphans, blood to the patients, water during the crisis time, relief supplies during floods, medicine to the patients, ration kits and homes to the homeless.

During the drinking water crisis in 2016, HIF supplied water facilities to more than 1000 families in Mangalore.  Two years back during the flood, HIF provided necessary commodities to the flood victims in Dakshina Kannada District. During the shortage of blood in Mangalore hospitals, HIF arranges blood donors camps and provide the blood to the patients.  HIF spends one day with orphans every month. HIF charitable activities have been well recognized by the kind hearted people in Dakshina Kannada District.

MLA Vedavysa Kamath, Mayor Diwakar and Mangalore City Corporation opposition leader Abdul Ravoof lauded the selfless efforts of HIF team in serving the poor and needy families in the society.

Bengaluru, Jan 14: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the government of Karnataka while hearing the plea for ordering Judicial probe into the December 19, violence and police action in Mangaluru.

On December 19, the local police while taking action against anti-CAA and NRC protesters had fired at them which had killed two citizens. The police action was then followed by curfew in the region for over 48 hours.

The High Court bench hearing the plea of JD(s) leader Iqbal and Sullia Pattan Panchayat member Iqbal seeking its intervention to order judicial probe into the matter has issued the notice to the government.
