Udupi, January 5: Maoist movement in Karnataka would not be successful as long as sun and moon exist, said Director General of Police Shankar Bidari.
He was speaking to persons after handing over a cash of Rs 3 lakhs to Gopi, daughter of Sadashiva Gowda, who was killed by suspected naxalites at Kabbinale, near Hebri in Karkala taluk.
Rs 3 lakhs was immediately deposited in the Hebri Post Office and Bidari told Gopi to draw Rs 2,050 of interest per month for her livelihood.
Replying a question on the rumour that Sadashiva Gowda was a police informer, Bidari said that it was the duty of every citizen to provide information about violence and criminals to the police.
Bidari also instructed the SPs to recruit 100 local youths including tribals of 18-28 age from Karkala, Sringeri and Thirthahalli and Belthangadi taluks immediately to the Karnataka police.
ADGP Harshavardhan Raju, IGP Western Range Prathap Reddy, DIG (ANF) Alok Kumar, Udupi SP Ravi Kumar, Dakshina Kannada SP Labu Ram and others were present.
