Minister inaugurates adventure sports ahead of NYF

Mangalore, January 9: With the clock ticking for 17th National Youth Festival, it is time for youth in the city to experience the thrills, spills and chills of adventure sports - be it on land, air and on water. Setting out to provide this experience is General Thimmaiah National Adventure Academy, which has organized a host of these activities for youth from Sunday up to January 11 for local youths and for the festival delegates from January 12 to 16.

Getting a firsthand feel of water sports were the top brass of the district administration under the stewardship of district in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar at Jeppinamogaru near here on Sunday.

Palemar, along with N Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the assembly, city police chief Seemanth Kumar Singh, DC NS Channappa Gowda, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar, who got first hand taste of jet-skiing on the serene waters of the Nethravathi.

The Vanadurga Temple at Sri Kshetra Kadekaru will be the hub of water adventure activities that includes jet skiing, banana ride, and kayaking, while parasailing will be held at Panambur beach. Rappelling, jummaring, Tyrolean traverse, and other land based adventure sports will be held at Town Hall/Nehru Maidan.

The Academy has fixed nominal rates for all these activities barring land based adventure which is free for general public. Jeethendra Shetty, administrative officer of the academy, told reporters that the academy has deputed 41 instructors for the various adventure sports lined up till January 16. These activities will be offered free to the delegates of the Youth Festival, he said, adding that children above seven years are eligible to participate in the events. Utmost importance is given to safety of those taking part in these adventure activities, Jeethendra added.

YR Kantharajendra, joint director, department of youth affairs and sports and director of the academy, agreed to a proposal from the DC to give a demonstration of water skiing. The houseboat rides assured in preparatory meetings of the youth festival too would be held off Sri Kshetra Kadekaru and they would be nominally charged, the DC said.

Ballari, Jul 17: An MLA from Karnataka’s Ballari district has tested positive for covid-19. P T Parameshwar Naik, Congress MLA from Huvina Hadagali constituency confirmed that he contracted coronavirus.

Parameshwar Naik had developed symptoms a few days back. He was subjected to Covid-19 test at a hospital in Harapanahalli. On Thursday, his report came positive. Naik’s house at Harapanahalli has been sealed. He is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bengaluru.

The other legislators from the state to test positive for coronavirus are: MLAs C T Ravi (Chikkmagaluru), Bharat Shetty (Mangaluru North), Ranganath (Kunigal), Sharath Bachegowda (Hoskote), Rajkumar Patil Telkur (Sedam), Ajay Singh (Jewargi), Prasad Abbayya (Hubballi-Dharwad East), MLCs Bhojegowda and M K Pranesh.

Bengaluru, May 1: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on the occasion of International Labour Day has appealed to migrant workers in the state to stay back and co-operate with it in resuming economic activities once the Central government issues further directions.

"It is my sincere request to all the migrant workers to stay back in the state and co-operate with us to resume the economic activities once we receive directions from Union Government," Yediyurappa said in a release issued by the CMO.

"COVID-19 situation in India is much better than other countries because of people's cooperation.

We intend to resume economic activities soon. The government has already held a meeting with representatives of associations of commerce and industry in this regard. The government has also appealed to the employers to protect the interest of their workers and pay salaries," he added.

The ongoing nationwide lockdown, imposed to contain the coronavirus spread, is scheduled to end on May 3.

Bengaluru, Apr 7: Former Minister and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramiah on Tuesday termed the shutting by private clinics in the state by doctors as an 'inhuman act'.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Congress leader said due to the fear of Novel Coronavirus, the doctors have closed their private clinics, which was against their profession.

This has affected the people, especially those, who are suffering from other deceases. He urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to intervene and resolve the issue immediately.

Despite the government instructions not to close down their clinics, the doctors have not been responding positively, Mr Siddaramaiah noted.

In this connection, the government should act seriously and give necessary warning to the doctors, to either open their clinics to serve the people, or face action, he added.
