Prepare to face mid-term elections in November: Mistry to Cong workers

Mangalore, January 10: Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party led Karnataka government of spreading communalism in the state and dividing the people, All India Congress Committee general secretary Madhusudan Mistry called upon the voters to teach an unforgettable lesson to the communal forces.

Addressing party workers at a meeting, Mr Mistry, who is also in-charge of the party in the State, asked the Congress workers to prepare for elections as the government in the State would not last long. “The State is likely to face mid-term elections this November”, he predicted

Asking the State not to follow the Gujarat-model and to adopt its own style, he said: “The Gujarat model is based on thousands of dead bodies. Many need justice,”

He asked party workers to visit villages and make people aware of the State Government's failures and the achievements of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government. “The UPA Government has passed many progressive laws,” he claimed and added that it was committed to pass the Women's Reservation Bill.

President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) G. Parameshwara said there was a feeling among party workers that there were differences in the party in the State. Mr. Mistry had asked him to tour all the districts and meet party workers to sort out differences if any. The party leaders were starting their tour from Dakshina Kannada.

Karnataka traces 800 among 1500 people suspected to be attended Tablighi Jamaat event

Bengaluru, Apr 2: About 1,500 people from Karnataka might have attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin in the national capital between March 8 to 20. Of these, the State has been able to trace 800 people.

Of the 800 persons, 143 people have been found to be symptomatic.

Mr Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), in a statement here on Thursday said that the Centre had sent the list of 1,500 people to the State.

“We cannot say if all these have attended the congregation. Some of them may have attended and some may be the contacts of those who have attended. We have been able to trace 800 from the list and samples of 143 symptomatic persons have been sent for tests."

Case against Shobha Karandlaje in Kerala over communal tweet

Newsroom, Jan 24: BJP leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje has been booked by Kerala police over a misleading and communally provocative social media post.

Karandlaje had tweeted that that Hindus from a colony in Kuttipuram in Malappuram district were denied water supply as they supported the the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

"Kerala is taking baby steps to become another Kashmir. Hindus of Kuttipuram Panchayat of Malappuram was denied water supply as they supported #CAA2019. #SevaBharati has been supplying water ever since. Will Lutyens telecast this intolerance of PEACEFULS frm God's Own Country!?," she tweeted.

A case has been booked under section 153(A) of IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race etc). Karandlaje took to Twitter to slam the Kerala government, and said it had lodged a complaint against her instead of acting against the discrimination faced by dalit families of Cherukunnu.

"It is high time the society unites against these pressure tactics of a non-performing, biased left government," she said.

Karandlaje claimed that the CAA had been accepted by both houses of Parliament and people supporting the Act were facing boycott in business and were being denied basic amenities and jobs. "The CPI(M) government is blind to all these incidents across Kerala, but files a case against me for speaking the truth!" she retorted.

According to reportage from multiple outlets, the colony in Malappuram district's Kuttippuram was dependent on a private individual for water; then came accusations that they were denied the water for attending BJP's pro-CAA rally.

A resident of the colony was quoted by a newspaper, “We were denied drinking water because our husbands participated in a meeting organised to gather support for the CAA. Some people told the family that they should not give drinking water to us because CAA is a threat to the people in their community.”

However, the individual in question denied the accusation, claiming a lack of water because of technical issues.

The case was registered after a complaint by lawyer Subhash Chandran, a resident of Malappuram. Aravindan E.A., SI of Kuttippuram police, said, "From a private person's borewell, water was being provided to the people of the colony. This motor had taken for agricultural work and he was recently issued a warning by State Electricity Board. He was told that if he uses the motor for any other purpose, power supply would be disconnected. He then had stopped using the pump following the crisis worsened.”

Govt to bring back Indians stuck abroad in a phased manner from May 7

The government of India today said it will begin evacuating its nationals stuck abroad due to the coronavirus pandemic from May 7 in a phased manner. This facility would be made available on payment basis.

A Standard Operating Protocol has been put in place and the travel would be arranged by aircraft as well as naval ships and will be available on a payment-basis, the government said.

"Medical screening of passengers would be done before taking the flight. Only asymptomatic passengers would be allowed to travel. During the journey, all these passengers would have to follow the protocols, such as the health protocols, issued by the ministry of health and the ministry of civil aviation," it said in a statement.

Specifying the protocols upon entry in India, the government said the returning Indians would be medically screened and will have to be quarantined for 14 days, either in a hospital or in an institutional quarantine on payment-basis, by the respective state government.
