Mangalore, January 10: Amidst the intensified internal rift in ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka, a prominent minister from coastal Karnataka has decided to quit the ministry.
According to reliable sources, Minister for Higher Education V S Acharya is said to have requested the BJP leadership to let him step down because of ill-health.
The party has decided to respect the 72-year-old leader's wishes though he has been its mainstay in difficult situations.
With Dr Acharya opting to step down, the chief minister will have to fill eight ministerial berths.
