National Youth awards conferred on 28 youth and two organisations

Mangalore, January 12: The Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs gave away the national youth awards to 28 individuals and two youth organisations at inaugural ceremony of 17th National Youth Festival at Mangala Stadium here on Thursday, January 12.

The best national youth organisation award carried a purse of Rs 2 lakh and individuals awards Rs 40,000 besides a medal, a citation, and a shawl.

Three youths each from Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, two youth each from Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Maharastra and one youth each from Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Khand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Puduchery, Odisha, Dehli, Goa and Gujarath states.

Awardees: Edunuri Shankar, A Venkata Laxmi, K H Bhagavan Das Goutham (Andhra Pradesh), Bidyuth and Dibyajothi Das (Assam), Bunty Solanki (Delhi), Kajal C Kerkar (Goa), Rakhi Dineshchandra Pandya (Gujarat), Muslim and Seema Rani, Subhash Dhigana(Haryana), Vijaykumar and Raja Abdul Waheed (Jammu & Kashmir), Y Chinnappa (Karnataka), Baburajan N (Kerala), Santhosh Tiwari (Madhya Pradesh), Amith Ganpat Gorkhe and Nisha Vithoba Jadhav (Maharashtra), Jyosna Mayee Swain (Odisha), Giriraj Kumar Rager and Ram Dayal Sen (Rajasthan), Pradeep Mahara (Uttarkhand), Rupali Biswas and Rishab Jain(West Bengal), Nepram Rajendra Singh (Manipur), Scaletty Lawriniang (Meghalaya), Joydeep Datta (Thripura) and Sadhish (Puducherry) received the awards.

Two Organisations: Action in Rural Technology and Service (ARTS from Andhra Pradesh) and Navachar Santhan (from Rajasthan)

Each state had sent 10 nominations for individual awards and five for youth organisation awards. The nominations were scrutinised by central selection committee headed by secretary of the youth affairs and sports department.

Mangaluru, May 19: An Indian expatriate worker hailing from Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district, who was undergoing treatment for covid-19, passed away in Kuwait.

He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. His family resides at Kashimath, Vittal in Bantwal taluk.

According to sources, he was unwell for past one month and had been diagnosed with covid-19 infection.

The last rites were conducted in Kuwait. Under the guidance of the priests of the local church, prayer and other last rituals were performed at his home in Bantwal.

He had visited this hometown last year for the wedding of his daughter, sources said.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy had said that his son Nikhil's marriage ceremony will take place at bride Revati's residence in Bengaluru, however, the wedding preparations are also going on in his farmhouse at Ramnagar.

This comes amid the lockdown in the country due to COVID-19 outbreak. The farmhouse is located at Kethaganahally, near Bidadi in Ramnagar.

Kumaraswamy has said the marriage will be simple and only his family members will attend and no one from outside would be invited.

Earlier Kumaraswamy has said that his son's marriage will take place on April 17 at bride house.

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 1: Karnataka’s twin costal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have recorded 10 more deaths related to covid-19. 

With four more deaths, Dakshina Kannada’s covid-19 death toll mounted to 159. Udupi’s covid-19 death toll mounted to 35 with 6 new deaths. 

Meanwhile, DK recorded 139 new covid positive cases. Among them 91 are from Mangaluru, 19 from Bantwal, 14 from Beltangady, nine from Puttur, and six from other districts.

With this, the total number of the covid-10 cases in DK reached 5,852. Out of these only 3,008 cases are currently active. 

On the other hand, Udupi recorded 136 new covid-19 cases. The total number of covid-19 cases reported in the district mounted to 4,492. 

According to the official bulletin, a total of 32,401 samples have been collected so far. Among them 27,463 have turned out to be negative and 446 reports are awaited.
