Udupi, January 15: Even when Putthige Mutt pontiff Sugunendra Theertha participated and all other yathis of Ashta mutts abstained from the Putthige Paryaya celebrations, the Paryaya system did not get spoiled, according to Udupi district-in-charge minister Dr VS Acharya, who is also the working president of the Sode Mutt Paryaya reception committee.
“This Sode Paryaya when all other Ashta Matadhipathis except Putthige seer have been invited and the celebrations are expected to go as usual,” he said.
As long as the Paryaya system of Udupi runs smoothly government or any other third party can't interfere in it, minister added.
The Paryaya Reception Committee wants all the Ashta Matadhipathies to sit together and settle the controversy. It should not be a matter of public debate. We discussed the issue with the Sode Mutt pontiff Vishwavallabha Theertha and asked him to take all the yathis together. But he has expressed his helplessness, as a few of the yathis are against inviting Putthige seer, he added.
He clarified that government cannot interfere just for the reason that Rs 3 crore had been released for developmental works to be taken up during the Paryaya festival, as the same was released only to take up civic amenities in Udupi city.
