Puttur: BJP, Bajrang Dal workers clash over cow-trafficking

Puttrur January 18: Two separate complaints have been lodged at the Kadaba police station in connection with a brawl between the workers of BJP and Bajrang Dal over an alleged cow trafficking incident.

Four persons including the convenor of the Bajrang Dal Savanoor unit, have been admitted to hospital following the clash.

Dhanya Kumar Belandur (26), the Dal office-bearer, has been admitted at the government hospital while Darnappa Gowda, Yateendra Gowda and Monappa Gowda, all linked to BJP, have been admitted to private hospital.

Mr. Kumar on Tuesday speaking to a newspaper said he had been to Kudmaru Chapalya on January 14 midnight following a tip off that cows have been transported on a lorry. “When we way laid the vehicle, we found Darnappa Gowda in the cabin of the truck. He was transporting cattle. When we inquired about the cattle, he hurled abuses and took the vehicle forward,” Mr. Kumar said.

“I received a threatening call from him the next day. I was asked to come to Savanoor under the pretext of compromise. But when I reached there, I was assaulted brutally. I was kicked around and badly beaten up. Somehow I was saved by the timely intervention of the police,” Mr .Kumar said.

In his complaint to the Kadaba police, Mr. Kumar has named Darnappa Gowda, Yathindra Matha, Shivanna Gowda, Honnappa Gowda and Monappa Gowda, Babu Gowda, Balakrishna Shetty, Dayananda Malettaru, Kushalappa Gowda as the accused.

In a counter complaint, Mr. Darnappa Gowda has accused Dhanya Kumar, Dinesh and Anand Gowda Koonkya of preventing their lorry near Kudmaru during midnight and assaulting them.

Mangaluru, July 1: The district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 in entire Dakshina Kannada between 8pm and 5am in the entire month of July.

Notice in this regard was issued today by Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Roopesh. The order will come into force with immediate and will be in place ill July 31, the DC said.

The decision was taken days after Karnataka government took steps to tighten covid restriction and imposed lockdown from 8pm to 5am. 

Under the imposed Section 144, the presence or movement of one or more persons in public places are prohibited. Besides, the gathering of any sort anywhere, including religious places subject to certain conditions in view of the COVID-19 pandemic will also be restricted.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar held a meeting through video conference on Thursday with private and government establishments involved in testing and treatment of COVID-19 in the state.

A total of 51,422 cases including 19,729 recoveries and 1,032 deaths were reported in the state till yesterday.

On the same day, K Sudhakar also paid a surprise visit to the Bengaluru's CV Raman Hospital and urged the administration to follow COVID-19 guidelines properly. He also took stock of the hospital's preparedness to fight the deadly virus.

"Surprise visits will continue. I will be in touch with every lab and get the right number of tests done on a daily basis," the minister said while speaking to the media.

He also urged the people who have recovered from coronavirus to donate their plasma to save other lives, adding that donors will receive a reward of Rs 5,000 as a token of appreciation.

Udupi, Jan 7: Eshapriya Teertha Swamiji, who was appointed as the junior Swamiji of Admar Math, would be ascending the 'Paryaya Peeta' for the first time on January 18, Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Admar Math said.

Speaking to the media at Admar Moola Math at Admar near Padubidri on Monday night Vishwapriya Teertha Swamiji of Admar Math said, 'I had performed my first Paryaya in 1988-90 with the help of Shri Vishwapriya Teertharu.

'The second Paryaya was performed independently by the order of Shri Vibudhesha Teertharu in 2004-06.
