Good films can bring back sensitivity'

Mangalore, January 19: Noted cinematographer G S Bhaskar said that good films can bring sensitivity back into people, who lose the feelings in their day-to-day grind.

He was speaking after inaugurating the four-day film festival organised by Sahamatha Film Society and SDM College of Business Management on the premises of the latter on Thursday.

He pointed out that there are four kinds of cinemas such as entertainment made for sensory pleasure, documentaries for information, advertising and commercial films and art films which aim to enhance the mind.

“Cinema is an experiential medium and one will understand it better if he experiences it”, he said.

He also said that films sensitised people by holding a mirror to them and showing the path to be followed. “Films will not lead to a revolution, but just tell the ground reality,” he added.

Mangalore-based film maker Sadananda Suvarna said one of the rules with the Censor Board was that the one who committed crime had to be punished in a film. He also said that the society should encourage good films.

SDM College of Business Management Director Dr Devraj K was also present.

The inauguration was followed by the screening of Kannada film 'Kubi Mattu Iyala' which was directed by Sadananda Suvarna. The film had received the State award for Best Director, Best Story and Best Film in the year 1992.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Firebrand BJP Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday said that control of state power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma.

His comments, in a series of tweets, came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lord Ram temple at Ayodhya.

"Dear Hindus, Most important lesson is that control of State power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma. When we didn't control State, we lost our temple. When we regained, we rebuilt. The 282 (seats) in 2014 and 303 (seats) in 2019 to Sri Narendra Modi made today possible!", Surya, who is also the party's BJP youth Wing state general secretary, tweeted.

He also said that the survival of India depends on the survival of Sanatana Dharma.

"The Sanatana Dharma, that is nationalism,' Sri Aurobindo had said in his Uttarapara speech. But what does it mean? Along with Jai Sri Ram, the purohits also chanted Bharat Mata Ki Jai - That is Dharmic nationalism. If Dharma survives, India survives," he said in another tweet.

Kasaragod, Feb 17: A Kerala Muslim couple conducted the wedding of their Hindu foster daughter at a Bhagavathi temple in Kerala, scripting another tale of communal harmony at Kasaragod.

The wedding ceremony was held on Sunday.

The woman Rajeshwari tied the knot with Vishnu Prasad in the presence of family and friends belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities.

Abdulla and Khadeeja adopted Rajeshwari after her father who worked at Abdulla's farm died. Rajeshwari's mother also passed away when she was a child.

Rajeshwari grew up alongside Abdulla and Khadeeja's three sons- Shameem, Najeeb and Shereef.

Earlier in January this year, cutting across the lines of religion, a mosque in Kerala's Kayamkulam hosted a Hindu marriage ceremony.

Bengaluru, Mar 30: The total number of COVID-19 cases in Karnataka has climbed to 88 on Sunday after five more persons tested positive for the lethal infection.

"Five more COVID-19 cases reported in Karnataka taking positive cases in the state to 88," said the State health department.

Of the five, one is a close contact of an earlier confirmed patient and the others are workers of a pharmaceutical company in Mysuru, from where a person had tested positive, the department said.

The country is under a 21-day lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, which according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has infected 1,071 people so far.
