Sri Bhoothanatha Kreedotsava 2 from Feb 17 to 19

bhootaMangalore, January 30: Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Kreedotsava-2 will be held from February 17 to 19 February 2012 in the fields adjacent to Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple, Badaga Yedapadav, Mijar, near here.

The event has evoked very good response from the village sports enthusiasts of coastal Karnataka after the registrations opened last week.

“So far we have received about 300 entries and we hope this time the participation will be much more than last year,” said Sri Vijaynath Shetty, the chief organizer of the Kreedotsava.

After the unprecedented success of the Kreedotsava last year, the organizers have included many more games to reach out to more number of village people. This year there will be competitions in 40 games spanning 64 categories with prize money aggregating to over Rs. 9 lakhs along with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has consented to inaugurate the Kreedotsava on February 17, at 7:30 a.m.

The Games

Kesarugadde Ota (Slush field Race), Kesarugadde Hagga Jaggata (Tug of War), Kasarugadde Nidhi Shoda, Naisargika Dehardadya (Natural Body Building), Cycle Race, Patreyalli Neeru Thumbuvudu (Filling Water in Vessel) etc which were popular last year will be continued this year too. This apart, interesting new items like Paduke Ota (Cater Pillar Race), Marakalu Ota, Angai Kalaga (Arm Wrestling), Kasarugadde Jana Kambala, Theppangai, Jataka Ota, Kutti Donne, Kothlai Bhandi etc are added so bring variety and attract more types of talent.

The objective of organizing the Kreedotsava is to boost the rural community life. Hence we have different items to appeal to all types of people and attract maximum involvement. To encourage families to participate we have couples-only games like Pathi Shoda and Jodi Kesarugadde Ota. For the children we have drawing competition, tyre race etc. There are also exclusive senior citizens categories for many of the games so that the elderly people too can take part, said Sri Vijaynath Shetty.

Animal husbandary is a part of village life and many people are passionate about it. For such people we have events like Alankrata Dhana (Best Decorated Cow) and Ati Sundara Koli (Best Looking Cock). We have also introduced Koli Ota, an innovative type of non-violent cock race.

Other types of rural talents that will be tested include Rangoli, Mundasu Kattuvudu (turban tying), Beedi Rolling, Mudi Kattuvudu (Mudi Rice Packing) and Thengina Gari Vinyasa (Coconut Leaf Design).

In line with the theme of village games, dress code is compulsory for all the players, with male players having to wear lungi and while the female players have to wear saree / churidar.

'Best Village' trophy

In order to foster village level unity and encourage the villagers to come together with 'We' feeling, a 'Best Village' trophy will be given to the village scoring the highest number of points based on the wins the villagers have earned in the different sporting events. The trophy comprises of cup and attractive prize money of Rs. 1,00,000 and Rs.50,000.

Manassuda Ullasogu Bodad Enchinala Malpuva

A special attraction is 'Manassuda Ullasogu Bodad Enchinala Malpuva', which is a talent show, where any individual or group having a special talent in any field may perform before the judges panel. This contest, which similar to Sony TV's 'Entertainment Ke liye Kuch Bhi Karega', will be staged on 17th February 7:30 p.m. onwards and the prize money is Rs. 25,000/-

Entertainment Programmes

There will also be entertainment programmes every evening including a Magic Show by Mega Magic Star Kudroli Ganesh for two and half hours on 18th February 7:30 p.m. onwards. Singer Raghu Dixit will be giving a live concert on February 7:30 p.m. onwards. Other additions to the programmes will be announced on 17th February morning after the inauguration.

Transport

On all 3 days, free bus services will be provided from Yedapadavu to Temple from the morning and from temple to Yedavpadavu, Moodbidri and Mangalore at night after games and functions are over. The temple is also at a walking distance from Mijar-Baithari bus stop.

Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple:

Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple is a 1500 year old shrine and the deity represented by three lingams on single platform is a unique feature of the temple. Following the total renovation and Brahmakalashotsava celebration in 2010, the temple has taken unique initiatives for upliftment of the village and for boosting the rural community life of Tulunadu region under the leadership of Sri Vijaynath Shetty.

Entry Forms

Sri Vijaynath Shetty, the chief organizer of the Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Kreedotsava has appealed to the rural folks to participate in the event in large numbers. “This year we have included many innovative games to appeal to all categories of people and I request everyone to join in this great effort to celebrate village life as villages are the backbone of our country,” he said.

Entry is open to all and people belonging to all castes, communities or religions are welcome. Entry Forms are available at the temple office. Last date for accepting registration is 10th February at 8:00 p.m.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: Schools will remain closed and are expected to be opened in the month of August or September in the view of rising COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, said S Suresh Kumar, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education and Sakala of Karnataka on Tuesday.

Speaking on the issue, Kumar said, "Schools would not open for the time being. The children will be taught through media."

"The state is also working on the new schemes to improve the learning process for the students," he added.

As many as 5,536 new COVID-19 cases and 102 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department.

The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 1,07,001 including 64,434 active cases, 40,504 discharges and 2,055 deaths.

Bengaluru, May 3: Erection of barricades and drawing up of boxes or circles aimed at maintaining social distancing were seen in front of liquor shops in different parts of Karnataka on Sunday, a day ahead of their reopening after a gap of over 40-days, due to the lockdown.

Karnataka Excise Commissioner on Saturday had ordered that only CL-2 (retail shops) and CL-11C (state-run retail shops like Mysore Sales International Limited) would open from May 4.

It had permitted liquor sale liquor between 9 am and 7 pm only in areas that are outside COVID-19 containment zones.

Reports of barricades being erected to ensure that people stand in line and drawing of boxes or circles in front of shops to maintain social distancing in front of retail and MSIL shops have emerged from across the state, including the state capital.

Also reports about shop keepers doing special poojas outside liquor shops in Kolar and some even illuminating their outlets with lights from outside have surfaced from other parts of the state.

Meanwhile, officials were engaged in checking stocks ahead of the shops opening on Monday morning.

"We are making all preparations to ensure that government rules are followed. We also seek the cooperation of the people and police," the manager of a shop said.

Another said there may be a rush initially, after which things may get back to normal.

"We expect things to go on smoothly," he added.

Calling for number of customers to be limited to five at a time while ensuring that they maintain social distancing of not less than six feet distance, the order states that customers and the staff will have to wear masks and sanitizers should be used at the shops.

Only stand alone CL-2 and CL-11C shops are allowed to commence liquor sale and not those at malls and super markets, it said.

Officials in Bengaluru said liquor sale is prohibited in 26 containment zones in the city, while in other places rules that have been prescribed need to be followed.

In case of any violation, strict action would be taken, including imposing of penalty, they said.

There was pressure on the government to kick start economic activities, including allowing sale of liquor, to boost the state's finances as excise is the key area which generates revenue.

State Excise Minister H Nagesh had recently pegged the losses at Rs 60 crore per day because of closure of liquor shops, due to the lockdown.

Jan 2: A year after 12,000 acres of forests in Bandipur went up in smoke, the Karnataka Forest Department is gearing up for the summer even as the Forest Survey of India (FSI) has cautioned that 22.78 lakh acres (9,222 sq km) or about 20% of the green cover spread across three districts in the central part of the state is fire-prone.

The FSI studied forest fire incidents across the country between 2004-05 and 2017 before coming up with state-specific inputs.

According to the 13-year observation, Karnataka has 7,352 “fire points” or areas measuring 5 km X 5 km with frequent fire incidents.

Though the number is lower compared to states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha with over 20,000 points, the sheer spread of the fire-prone area itself is a challenge for the Karnataka Forest Department.

According to data, about three lakh acres (1,199.9 sq km) of forest area is very highly fire prone with 26 to 52 fire incidents in 13 years. This is followed by 7.6 lakh acres (3,067 sq km) of “highly fire prone” areas with an average of one to two incidents every year.

Almost all of the “red alert” areas are concentrated in Uttara Kannada, Chikkmagaluru, Shivamogga and Chamarajanagar districts. As temperature rises at the end of January, so does the risk of forest fires, requiring officials to be on vigil till the end of summer.

After an investigation into the Bandipur blaze revealed that faulty fire lines and poor supervision were the reason for the spread of the fire, the department has come up with a multi-pronged approach to prevent similar incidents this year.

“After the Bandipur incident, we have created a fire cell and a standard operating procedure (SOP) which everyone has to follow. Firstly, a fire management plan is prepared and approved by a competent authority.

The SOP has well defined firelines which have to be executed by December-end and burning must be completed by January 15,”  Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force) Punati Sridhar told DH.

He said that to ensure its strict implementation, GPS readings of firelines are to be submitted for random verification.

“All the required equipment from fire jackets to shoes, gloves, backpack sprayers and tractors mounted with 2,000-5,000 litre tanks with high pressure pumps will be deployed at vantage points,” he said.

In addition, the department’s fire cell works in collaboration with the Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Centre (KSRSAC) to give fire alerts within half and hour of an area catching fire and detected by satellites.

“Earlier, the gap used to be four hours by when the fire would have spread beyond control. Now, with reduced time gap, it would be easier to control fire early,” he added.
