Mangalore, February 5: A group of miscreants stabbed a youth to death during a Nemotsava at MRPL Colony at Chelyaru under the limits of Suratkal police station in the wee hours of Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Manikantha alias Mani (32), a resident of Munchuru. He was working as a bus cleaner.

It is learnt that Mani had been to the annual Nemotsava of Kod'dabbu demigod on Saturday night. A quarrel broke out between him and few other local residents identified as Santosh alias Santu, Satish alias Sachchu, Hemant, Vasant, Pradeep, Shekhar alias Sandee and Niranjan for a trivial reason in the Nemotsava. All of them were drunk.

The fight continued when the same group met Mani at Shanti Katte, half a kilo-metre away from the place of Nemotsava.

A complained lodged at Suratka police station by the relatives of Mani stated that the miscreants stabbed Mani on his chest, stomach and back at around 2:30 am.

Although Suratkal police rushed to the spot within few minutes and managed to shift a critically injured Mani to the hospital, he succumbed to stab injuries before reaching hospital.

Bengaluru, Apr 11: Seven more people have tested positive for coronavirus taking the tally to 214 in the state.

"Coronavirus cases rise to 214 in Karnataka, with seven more people testing positive between 5 PM Friday and 12 PM Saturday," said the Karnataka health department.

According to the health department, all these seven people have a history of contact with COVID-19 patients. Five of them are workers of a pharmaceutical company in Mysuru.

"Out of the total cases in the state, six people have died while 37 others were cured or discharged," added the state health department.

Bengaluru, Jun 11: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday allowed the Opposition Congress party's newly elected state president DK Shivakumar to have a formal swearing-in function.

He told media, “I have spoken to Shivakumar and informed him to conduct the event after taking precautionary measures against the spread of the COVID-19 disease”.

The move came after the state government received flak from the main Opposition Congress leaders, for refusing to permit the newly elected State Congress president to have a formal swearing-in function take reigns from his predecessor Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Mangaluru, May 28: As many as 19 labourers, who were stranded in Lakshadweep island due to lockdown following COVID-19 outbreak, have been brought back to Mangaluru by a boat ' Amindivi' on Thursday.

On their arrival, they were subjected to medical examination and were warmly welcomed by their family members who had come to receive them at the Port.
