Porn-gate, island sleaze likely to cloud BJP state executive in Mangalore on March 1,2

Mangalore, February 8: The sensational porngate scandal which saw three ministers dramatically exit the cabinet and the controversy over skin show and use of drugs and liqour at the St. Mary's Festival are expected to cast a spell on the State executive committee meeting of the ruling-Bharatiya Janata party to be held in Mangalore on March 1and 2.


In an unprecedented development in the histrory of Karnataka politics three cabinet ministers - Laxman Savadi, C.C. Patil and J. Krishna Palemar - resigned after footages of them allegedly watching a pornographic clipping was telecast on Kannada news channels on Tuesday.

The decision to hold the meeting in Mangalore would also mean that the party will have to come out clean on the issue of its indirect support to the 'Spring Zouk' festival at St. Mary's island where revelers allegedly indulged in obscene activities. The ruling party has already drwan lot of flak for its support to the festival in the name of promoting tourism.


A meeting of the BJP Ministers and officer-bearers held in Bangalore on Monday decided about the venue of the executive commitee meeting.


Speaking to reporters after the meeting, party State president K.S.Eshwarappa said the divisional-level meetings of the party organisations would also be held from February 11 soon after the ending of the ongoing legislature session. He also announced that a meeting of the party legislators and ministers would be held in Bangalore on February 24 and 25 to discuss issues related to development.


Meanwhile, Chief Minister D.V.Sadananda Gowda is learnt to have assured his predecessor B.S.Yeddyurappa of not making any important decisions without consulting party senior leaders including himself. It is being said that Mr. Yeddyurappa was upset over not being consulted while the Upalokayukta was appointed.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: Gyms in Bengaluru carried out sanitation work on Thursday following the Centre's nod to reopen gyms from August 5, after several weeks of COVID-induced lockdowns.

"We are taking all the precautionary measures prescribed by the government and will follow the guidelines very strictly. A thermal scanner, oximeter and hand sanitizers have been placed at the entrance of the gym. 

We request all other gym owners also to follow the guidelines strictly to keep their members safe and healthy," said Prasad Kumar, a gym owner in Bangalore.

He added, "The last few months have been very difficult for us gym owners and fitness instructors. We are very grateful to the government for allowing us to re-open. 

We are going to be very cautious when we open. Even before this COVID-19 pandemic, we used to sanitise all the equipment before and after every use so hopefully, this won't be too difficult for us. We are getting rid of the air conditioners to allow cross ventilation and open the space a little more."

According to Chandu Gowda, an actor and frequenter of the gym, working out at home was not the same as working out in the gym with the proper equipment.

"I'm very glad that I get to come back and work out as I used to before this lockdown. For an actor, working out is extremely important, not just for my physical health but also mental health. 

Doing exercises at home is never as good as exercising in a space dedicated to one purpose. I hope other members of the gym follow the rules and regulations religiously," Gowda said.

Mangaluru, Jun 19: Mohammad Haneef Guddemane, a cattle trader, who was thrashed by the miscreants of Bajrang Dal while legally transporting cattle last weekend, today appeared before media and demanded appropriate action against the assailants.

The attack took place on June 14 at Urwa in the city when he was transporting four buffalos along with all necessary documents. The attack was also captured on a CCTV camp. 

The victim, who addressed a press conference today, said that it was not the first time he is transporting cattle as into animal and husbandry for years. 

“I had bought 10 she-buffaloes on June 13 from Ranennur and obtained certificate from the local government veterinary doctor after which the animals were brought to my village,” said Haneef, who is a resident of Jokatte on the outskirts of the city. 

He said that he was transporting four out of the ten she buffaloes he had bought to the slaughterhouse at Mangaluru on June 14 when a gang of around 15 members which intercepted his vehicles near Urwa police station dragged him out of the vehicle, rained abusive words at him, made blasphemous remarks about his religion, and hit him with a helmet besides kicking him. 

He said that three of the assailants were armed with sabre, iron rod and wooden sticks. 

"They also tied me to the vehicle and assaulted. They also attacked me with their arms but I escaped. Their plan was to kill me. Fortunately, the police reached the spot and the assailants escaped. However, they thoroughly damaged my vehicle and robbed Rs 7,800 I had with me. I got treated at Highland Hospital in the city," he stated.

Expressing shock over the soft corner approach of the police towards the assailants, he said that only six of around 15 attackers were booked by the police. 

“All the accused were let off by the police after registering petty cases. Ironically, the police had not recorded my statement. On the day of attack, they had asked me to sign on a paper. It contained the complaint written by themselves. Hence, on June 17 I visited the Urwa police station and recorded my statement,” he said.

He said that even though he has all the documents pertaining to the cattle that he had purchased, the police had registered false cattle theft charge against him. 

Former city mayor K Ashraf, Hyder, bother of the victim and Shamsuddin, Jokatte gram panchayat vice president were present at the press meet.

Bengaluru, Jun 25: A total of 442 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Karnataka on Thursday taking the total count of cases in the state to 10,560.

According to the State Health Department, there are 3,716 active cases and 6,670 patients have been discharged after treatment. Six more deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 170.

India's COVID-19 count reached 4,73,105 on Thursday with the highest single-day spike of 16,922 cases in the last 24 hours.
