Udupi, February 11: Udupi Block Congress President Pramod Madhwaraj on Saturday accused Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat of receiving Rs 10 lakhs as a kickback from the controversial Tebma Shipyard.

Speaking to media persons Pramod said that like his mentor and former chief minister BS Yedyurappa, Bhat too received the money through the Pariwar Samudaya Trust, by cheque. Producing the copies of the bank statement of both Tebma Shipyard and the Pariwar Samudaya Trust, in support of his allegations, Pramod showed the transfer of Rs 3 lakhs, Rs 3.5 lakhs and Rs 3.5 lakhs to the Trust on Feb 28, 2008, Mar 4, 2008 and Mar 7 respectively from Tebma to MLA Bhat's Trust.

As Bhat is a beneficiary of the Tebma Shipyard his protests against the Shipyard and lip sympathy to the fishermen were all an eyewash, Pramod said.

It is to be noted here that Pramod had accused Bhat of benefiting to the tune of crores of rupees from the government sponsored Rave Party as he is one of the partners in hosting the party. In return Bhat accused Pramod of withdrawing from the protest against Nagarjuna power plant half a way, as he was offered a kickback.

Replying to Bhat allegationst him, Pramod said as he was the highest taxpayer in the district with well-established enterprises in his name, he need not beg before others. As BJP is ruling the state, they were free to conduct any inquiry against him on the issue and they should not miss this opportunity to inquire, he said.

“Sadananda Gowda, as an MP opposed Nagarjuna and as the CM he is supporting it. District in-charge minister Dr VS Acharya had opposed the project when he was not in power and supported it when in ruling. Likewise MLA Raghupathi Bhat when in opposition opposed it and now supporting it. Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, has been changing his stand every now and then. If all those BJP leaders take up a protest against Nagarjuna he would surely join the agitation”, Pramod challenged.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: Janata Dal-Secular leader and former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday accused the central government of writing off loans of those who are facing charges of fraud.

In a series of tweets, Kumaraswamy slammed the central government.

"Really? At a time when the whole world is worried about unprecedented economic emergency, writing off Rs 68,000 crore loans of willful big fish defaulters became the best antidote to the economic crisis? And how is 50k cr package to mutual funds going to help the common man?" he tweeted.

In another tweet, Kumaraswamy said that "Billionaire scamsters like Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksy, Sanjay Junjunwala seem to be very dear to this government".

"Na khaunga, na khane dunga" is yet another jumla unraveled. Billionaire scamsters like Vijay Malya, Mehul Choksy, Sanjay Junjunwala seem to be very dear to this government. The poor are dying by the roadside, farmers are desperate, the middle class is faced with economic doom.

The government has done little to help. But it writes off loans of those who are facing charges of fraud! What patriotism! What nationalism!" he tweeted.

Mangaluru, May 22: An elderly cardiac patient from Dakshina Kannada, who was stranded in Saudi Arabia due to covid-19 lock-down, has finally reached his homeland thanks to the timely intervention by Humanity Forum Jubail and Indian Social Forum.

The elderly man hailing from Kadaba area of Dakshina Kannada was admitted to a hospital in Madinah. However, his condition continued to worsen due to lack of proper treatment. The efforts by his family members to bring him back home had not yielded results.

Meanwhile, one of the relatives of the patient, Ansari Suratkal, who happens to be a DKSC activist, brought the issue to the notice of the Karnataka unit of the Indian Social Forum in Dammam. ISF contacted Humanity Forum president Zakariya Jokatte, who helped the patient to speak directly union minister D V Sadananda Gowda in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com.

Humanity Forum also persuaded the Indian Embassy to allow the stranded cardiac patient to fly back to India through Dammam-Bengaluru repatriation flight on May 20.

However, it was not easy for the patient to travel from Madinah to Dammam International Airport due to lock-down and curfew. ISF not only obtained travel permission for him but also arranged vehicle. Jeddah and Riyadh units of ISF helped in obtaining permission letter in their respective places in spite of travel ban imposed by the police. Madinah unit of ISF arranged vehicle for transportation. Zakariya Jokatte bore the air ticket and other expenses of the patient.
