Provide subsidy for quality films in Tulu: Shivadwaj

Mangalore, February 19: Actor and film director Shivadwaj opined that government should provide subsidy for quality films in Tulu too.

Speaking at a discussion on “Rise and fall of Tulu Cinema” organised by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, at its office on Saturday evening, he said that quality films help in making the maximum of the market available for Tulu films.

Mr. Shivadwaj, who has just finished shooting for the new Tulu film Bangarada Kural which is set to be released in May, opined that Tulu film industry had indeed a good potential.

He also suggested that regional film festivals can be organised to generate awareness about Tulu, Konkani and Kodava films. “Tulu language is popular because of the humour-filled theatre and films. Our films will slowly get rights to screen films across satellite channels. Tulu programmes have been getting good TRPs in Mumbai and West Asia”, he said.

Film producer T.A. Srinivas expressed the need for setting up post-production facilities in the district, which will help in giving quality films.

Renowned Tulu theatre personality Vijaykumar Kodialbail, actors Subash Chandra Padiwal and K N Tailor and Academy chief Umanath A Kotyan also spoke on the occasion.

Udupi, May 29: As many as 15 fresh coronavirus positive cases were reported in Udupi district today. 

11 among the new 15 covid-19 patients are males and four are females. The patients also include two children aged 6 and 7.

All of them are said to be Maharashtra returnees. 

With this, the total confirmed covid-19 cases in the district mounted to 164.

Udupi, Mar 11: An elderly woman, who had recently visited Saudi Arabia has been admitted to an isolation ward at KMC in Manipal, here with symptoms of fever, cough and breathlessness.

The 68-year-old woman hails from Sagar taluk in Shivamogga district of Karnataka.

The patient had travelled to Saudi Arabia in the last week of February and was treated for fever cough and breathlessness there.

After recovery, she had travelled back to Bengaluru, where she was screened at the airport. 

Later, she reached Shivamogga where she was treated at Nanjappa Hospital for symptoms of fever, cough. 

As she has symptoms of coronavirus, she is quarantined and is under observation. The samples will have been sent to Bengaluru and the result is awaited.

Mangaluru, Jun 15: A 69-year-old man was murdered by his two sons at Muggaguthu in Karaya village under the limits of Uppinangady police station in Dakshina Kannada district. 

According to Police, accused Monappa Poojary (34) and Naveen (28) assaulted Dharnappa Poojary with sickle and wooden logs on Sunday night, leading to his on-the-spot death.

A family discord led to the murder, police said, adding that a case has been registered at Uppinangady police station and investigation was in progress.
