Shimoga, February 19: Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has come out in support of the three former ministers involved in Porngate.

At a programme in Shimoga on Saturday, the former CM showed his soft corner for the trio, who are his supporters, and targeted the media. He said, "It (ministers watching porn clips in the legislative assembly) has been blown out of proportion by the media. Everybody watches it. Don't you watch them?''

He said the media had given a different impression about the MLAs to the people. "Is that what all MLAs do? If someone, knowingly or unknowingly does it, it's fine to write about it for a day or two,'' he said. He advised the media to use some restraint. "The speaker has constituted a committee to probe the incident. Even after this, the media seeks my reaction on the issue daily,'' he fumed.

BSY distances himself from DVS, literally

B S?Yeddyurappa, who reportedly snubbed Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda when the latter called upon him to extend an invitation for an event in Shimoga, continued to be curt with Gowda during the event on Saturday.

The former chief minister surprised everyone by arriving at the Karnataka Slum Development Board event to distribute possession certificates to slum-dwellers, even though he came in 20 minutes late.

But as he climbed up the dais, he refused to acknowledge Gowda's presence even as the chief minister tried to greet him and sat at a distance though the seat next to Gowda was empty.

According to sources, Yeddyurappa was reluctant to attend the programme as it was organised by his political rival State BJP?president K S?Eshwarappa.

During the programme, Gowda got up from his seat and sat next to Yeddyurappa for a few minutes and posed for the cameras. But there was no exchange of any pleasantries between the two leaders.

While Gowda left the event before his predecessor's address, Yeddyurappa did not mention Gowda's name in his speech.

However, he offered an unsolicited explanation for not sitting next to Sadananda Gowda. “I am just a common legislator and the seats next to the chief minister were occupied by Shimoga MP and party State president,” Yeddyurappa said and snidely remarked that the media should not make an issue out of this and must rethink its priorities.

Bengaluru, Jul 11: Karantaka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Friday raised questions over claims that Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project Madhya Pradesh was "largest in Asia" and said a 2000 MW had been built in the state.

"BJP central government is claiming today that it inaugurated Asia's largest solar plant of 750 MW at Rewa, MP. What then is the 2000 MW Solar Plant in Pavagada, Karnataka which was built in just 3 years by Karnataka Congress government and has been operational since 2018?" Shivakumar said in a tweet.

The Congress leader further said that the most unique thing about the solar project set up in Karnataka was that the farmers were being paid yearly rents for the land upon which it was constructed as it had been leased and not purchased from them, helping them retain ownership.

"The unique thing about the 2000 MW Pavagada Mega Solar Park was that not a single acre of land was acquired from the farmers. All 13,000 acres have been leased from the farmers who are being given yearly rent. Karnataka model of renewable energy was accepted as the best in India," he said.

"Union power minister must answer as to how the Central Government can claim that the Rewa Solar Park (750 MW) opened today is Asia's largest when clearly the Pavagada Park in Karnataka is much larger (2000 MW) and was opened two years back!" he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project to the nation on Friday.

Bengaluru, Mar 11: Did Congress party’s Man Friday, DK Shivakumar, not rise up to the occasion and save the situation for the party, whose rebel MLAs were flown into Bengaluru to unsettle the Kamal Nath-led government in Madhya Pradesh? Shivakumar told The New Indian Express on Tuesday, “So far, I have not got any clear direction on what has to be done. But I am in touch with the central leaders. The party does not want to antagonise them... They are our own MLAs.”

He said that the Tenth Schedule, which makes defections illegal, is very strong. “It is not so easy for them once they are expelled. There are courts and then they have to get re-elected. It is not easy to get minister’s post after getting re-elected,” he added.

When pointed out that rebels from the Congress and JD(S) who joined the BJP have got re-elected and become ministers, he said, “There are other issues here.”

Asked about Digvijay Singh, who is at the centre of the controversy in MP and who was AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, not being able to prevent the rebellion in his home state, Shivakumar said, “I do not want to comment on any of our national leaders.”But he was confident that the Congress government would be saved in MP. “I am aware of the developments and keeping track of them,” he said.

Congress leaders seemed wiser after the event.

One of them, who wished not to be identified, said the party clearly did not see the writing on the wall. “Jyotiraditya Scindia supported the BJP at the Centre when it scrapped Article 370. Later too he was not in line with the Congress position on several issues. But during the recent Delhi violence, he criticised the BJP, sending confusing signals,” he added.
