Heggade, Justice Hegde, Kalam among 27 achievers honoured by Sitaram Jindal Foundation

New Delhi, February 25: Sitaram Jindal Foundation has honoured 27 Outstanding Selfless Workers, including Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Justice Santosh Hedge, Dharmsthla Veerendra Heggade and Anna Hazare, by bestowing Jindal Prize & S R Jindal Prize at a glittering Felicitation Ceremony held in the Capital, on Thursday.

Those honoured included individuals and Institutions who are beacons of selfless service to the society with prize money of Rs 7.30 Crores.

Sri Sri Ravishankar of Art of Living honoured the awardees. Tejendra Khanna, Lt. Governor of Delhi was the guest of honour who also gave away prizes to winners.

S R Jindal Prize (Honorary) was awarded to Lala Mange Ram Agarwal for his exceptional selfless service to society.

Five S R Jindal Prizes worth Rs 25 Lakhs each for Rural Development & Poverty Alleviation were bestowed on Anna Hazare; Sankara Eye Care Institutions India, Coimbatore; Utthan, Allahabad; Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission, Barrackpore; and jointly to Dr G Gopal Reddy, Agriculture Scientist, Nalgonda, AP and Lok Biradari, Prakalp (Started by Baba Amte on 1973).

Dr Sitaram Jindal has set aside Rs 125 Crores to form a corpus of funds for creating a perpetual Prize, to honour the deserving, year after year. Such perpetual financial stability of Prize Schemes is uncommon except in rare cases like the Nobel Prize.

Nine S R Jindal Prizes for Crusade against Corruption worth Rs 10 lakhs each were given to Tehelka; Manish Sisodia, New Delhi; Dr. Rajinder K Singla, Chandigarh; Manjunath Shanmugam (Posthumous); Ramesh Verma, Hissar; Shehla Masood (Posthumous), Bhopal; jointly to Dr Ashok Khemka, IAS, Chandigarh & Sanjiv Chaturvedi, IFS, Haryana; jointly to Rajnikant Borele, Maharashtra & Ajay B Bose, Central Railway, Mumbai; and jointly to Pawan Kumar Chaudhary, Patna & Atul Kumar, Kolkata.

Three Gallantry Awards were also posthumously given to Tuka Ram Omble, Mohan Chand Sharma and Maj. Sandeep Unnikrishnan for their supreme sacrifice in the fight against terrorism, stated in a press release.

Bengaluru, Jan 26: BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel has been served with a court notice asking him to personally appear before the special court for people’s representatives on February 24, in connection with a defamation suit filed by Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad.

Rizwan had lodged the defamation suit against Kateel and state BJP social media chief after the party, in a tweet during the 2019 Lok Sabha election, alleged Rizwan’s involvement in the manufacture of fake voter identity cards.

Apart from Kateel, head of the party’s social media unit has also been asked to appear in person at the above court on February 24.

Tumakuru, Jan 4: Three people were burnt alive and four others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a four-wheeler (Omni van) and a private bus on NH-206 near Doddaguni in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said that Narasamma’s relatives and villagers were taking her to a hospital in Nittur when a private bus, heading to Shivamogga from Bengaluru, collided with the van on the tank bund road near Doddguni around 0200 hrs. The two vehicles caught fire and Vasanthkumar, Ramaiah and Narasamma were burnt alive in the van. The passengers in the private bus escaped unhurt.

The deceased were identified as Vasanthkumar (23), Ramaiah (62) and Narsamma (60) of N Hosahalli in Gubbi taluk, whereas the injured were identified as Ravikumar (23), Radhamani (30), Narasimha Murthy (40) and Gowramma (28).

Newsroom, Feb 10: Habeeb Ur Rahiman, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at Kingdom University Bahrain, has been awarded doctorate from the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

He has completed his thesis Influence of Quality of Work Life, Ego Status and Job Attitude on Organisational Commitment and Productivity of Bank Employees under the guidance of Prof Rashmi Kodikal. 

Habeeb Ur Rahiman is the son of Yusuf and Ayisha couple from Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district.

After obtaining his Master Degree (MBA, Finance) from Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2012, he had worked in Bearys First Grade College, Kundapura and P A College of Engineering, Mangaluru before migrating to Bahrain.
