Ahmed Master Memorial football tournament: Jenifa FC Ullal emerges champion

Mangalore, March 5: Jenifa FC, Ullal has emerged as the new champion of Late Ahmed Master Memorial football league tournament, which concluded on Monday evening at district football grounds adjacent to Nehru Maidan in the city.

Needing either a draw or a win in the final super league tie against Kasba Brothers, Bengre, Jenifa settled for a goalless draw to take home the Trophy awarded to winners of the tournament organised by Dakshina Kannada District Football Association (DKDFA).

As many as 19 teams had taken part in the tournament that was organized at the cost of around Rs 1 lakh. Six teams had been qualified for the super league.

Prize distribution ceremony for the winners and achievers of the tournament was also held in the evening.

Speaking on the occasion Taranath Shetty, an acclaimed athlete, who is known for his skills in hammer throw, urged the sportsmen to give more importance to exercise so that they have good endurance. “Mere concentrating on games is not enough. These days the players have less stamina. Exercises like jogging and skipping increase stamina”, he said.

He also said that sports events like this are meant to develop friendship and one must play to enjoy the game. Apart from trophy, each of the players was given individual medals as well. The physiotherapy unit for the tournament was provided by KMC, Mangalore

Tilak Chandra, Circle Inspector of Pandeshwar, Muhammad Amin, Vice president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, D M Aslam, President of DKDFA and Mohammad Hussain, Secretary of DKDFA were also present.

Mangaluru, Jul 2:  A seven-day old baby boy was tested positive for Covid-19, Health Department officials said on Thursday.

The infant is currently undergoing treatment at a designated Covid Hospital here. The baby was born at a private hospital in the city last week. 

According to the officials, it was not known as to how the newborn contracted the infection.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa has received two threatening calls from Tamil Nadu, according to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He said that he had instructed the police to provide adequate security. 

At 12.30 pm on Friday, an unidentified person made a phone call. Speaking in Tamil, he threatened Eshwarappa with life, it is said.

Eshwarappa is known for abusive remarks and issuing threats to non-Hindus.

Bengaluru, Apr 19: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan on Sunday said that "only essential and critical number of" employees of the Information Technology (IT) companies will be allowed to work from offices from April 20 onwards in Bengaluru, while others will have to continue working from home.

"Only essential and critical number of employees required will be allowed to turn up. In the next two days, it will be reviewed and a suitable decision will be taken. 

All the details will be communicated to the IT companies," Narayan said here.

Earlier on Saturday, in a meeting to review COVID-19 situation in Karnataka, it was considered that one-third of the employees of IT and biotechnology companies could be allowed to work from the office premises, while the rest should continue to work from home.

Earlier on April 17, the Deputy CM, after holding a video conference meeting with heads of the IT and biotechnology companies, had told reporters that up to 50 per cent of the workforce would have the opportunity to function from office premises after April 20.
