Chikmagalur, March 9: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda has said that his party would show its strength in Udupi-Chikmagalur bypolls

Speaking at the JD(S) convention in the city he called upon the party workers to take up the impending poll as a challenge to save the party.

“The Congress party workers have questioned where is JD(S) in the state? JD(S) is in the minds of the people. It shall show its power in the elections,” he said.

In 2008 elections, JD(S) won three MP seats and Congress won six. It is irrelevant to discuss how Congress won the elections. Every one knows under whose shade it won the elections, he said.

Due to the BJP operation eight by polls have already been conducted. JD(S) has won three elections. Congress has not even won one.

Now the questioners should themselves answer where is their party in the state, he mocked.

Party State Wing Working President P G R Sindhya said that that Congress is shaken by the competition JD(S) is giving them in the by polls. Hence they are trying to defame the party.

The State government has failed to provide drinking water, good roads, he said explaining how the BJP government has failed.

MLA N Chelluvarayaswamy said that this election will decide the fate of any party. The Uttar Pradesh election results have proved that the National parties are not eligible to rule the nation, he said.

In case the JD(S) government comes to power in the state then it can solve the Bababudangiri issue peacefully, said former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Campaigning for JD(S) candidate S L Bhojegowda at Joladhala village, he said that Congress uses Muslims only for the election purpose, hence they should not be elected by the people. Some Muslims in BJP are playing with the emotions of the people only with political instigations. The state government has not done much for the minorities, complianed Kumaraswamy.

He also requested the people to vote for JD(S) keeping the developmental works in mind that took place when he was the Chief Minister.

Mangaluru, Feb 12: More than 7,000 people at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) and over 1,000 at the New Mangalore Port (NMP) have undergone thermal screening for the novel coronavirus in the past few days, a taluk health official said on Wednesday.

A few more ships are scheduled to arrive at the port and all precautionary measures to check the ship’s passengers and crew are ready, he said.

Soon after a positive case of deadly pathogen surfaced in Kerala, the district health officials here actively started monitoring all entry points in the bordering district.

Apart from Mangaluru, there is bus connectivity to Puttur, Sullia, Bantwal, Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya from Kerala. More than eight to 10 trains arrive at Mangaluru daily from Kerala.

Hence, it is impossible to take up screening of all the vehicles arriving from Kerala, sources in District Health and Family Welfare said.

Bengaluru, May 29: A cost-effective state of the art glove box testing booth for swab collection was inaugurated by Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar at Victoria hospital.

Inaugurating the specially designed booth for safer, easier and quicker testing, Medical Education Minister Dr Sudhakar said that the portable booths can be used at border check posts and hot spots.

"The testing method involves the collection of samples from inside a box of aluminium and glass. The suspected corona virus-infected individual, whose samples are being taken, has to walk up to the booth and stand in front of the glass exterior. The healthcare worker inside the kiosk collects the sample and then, follows the sanitisation process before proceeding to take the next sample. The collection process, fully contactless, gets over in five minutes," the Minister said.

Dr Sudhakar also said: "This booth significantly reduces manpower requirement and the need for PPE kits. The main advantages of this procedure are that it needs fewer healthcare workers and strictly adheres to the norms of social distancing.

The booth is low-cost. Each model costs about Rs 15,000-20,000."
It is also portable and can be mounted on a vehicle and transported to any location.

It can be particularly useful for collecting samples in hot spots and border checkpoints, he added.
