Highest parcel size coal vessel calls at New Mangalore Port as maiden voyage

Mangalore, March 13: M V CMB Pomerol, a new bulk carrier owned by M/s Pacific Bridge Shipping Corporation, Republic of Panama, carrying 89,794 metric tonnes of coal called at New Mangalore Port as her maiden voyage.

This is the highest parcel size of coal ever handled at the port. The vessel has been received on behalf of the Port Management and garlanded the captain of the vessel, Eduardp H Mondres.

The entire consignment imported from South Africa for M/s Jindal Steel(JSW) Ltd. was discharged at the deep draft berth of NMP using harbor mobile cranes. The vessel sailed out on Tuesday after four days of stay. M/s Wilhelmsen Ship Services are the agents of the vessel & M/s Delta Infra Logistics Ltd, the stevedores.

Coal traffic at NMPT shows upward trend. During the current financial year 2011-12(as on Feb) the Port has so far handled 3.40 million tonnes of coal as against 2.61 million tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year with a growth of 30.50%.

Tumakuru, Apr 12: Fearing the spread of COVID-19 in Muddenahalli village, the villagers shifted to living in tents in nearby fields with most of their belongings.

Kariyappa, one of the villagers said, "We were scared of the COVID-19 spread, so we came here."

Around 60 families of the village lived in tents for three days, before they returned to their houses on the advice of the Tehsildar.

So far, 214 COVID-19 cases, including six deaths, have been reported in the state of Karnataka.

With 34 deaths and 909 new positive COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus cases in India on Sunday reached 8356, including 716 cured and discharged, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Udupi, Aug 1: A young rider lost his life after a head-on collision between a scooter and a car on K G Road in Udupi last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Praveen Ganiga (24), a resident of Kodavoor in Malpe.

According to police Praveen was riding his scooter on the wrong side of the road. The car was plying from Brahmavar to Udupi.

The people on board car suffered minor injuries in the mishap. A case was registered at Brahmavar police station and investigations are on.

Bengaluru, Feb 12: Mohammed Nalapad, the rogue son of Karnataka Congress leader NA Harris, who is out on bail in a 2018 case of him bashing up a man at a pub, has now rammed his luxury car into vehicles, injuring four people on Bengaluru road.

The incident took place on Sunday on the Ballari Road where Nalapad was rash driving his car. The car hit a biker and an autorickshaw, injuring four people. He immediately got off his car and fled riding a friend's car.

The biker has suffered a fracture in his leg and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to police, soon after the accident a man appeared before police to claim responsibility for the accident.

Ravikante Gowde, Joint Commissioner of Police said, "A man named Balakrishna came to surrender as the one who was driving the car. Investigation has, however, showed that it was Nalapad who was driving when he met with the accident. The investigating officer has issued him a notice to appear before the police."

BJP spokesperson S Prakash has said, "A case under the Goonda Act should be filed against Nalapad and the court should take cognisance of this and cancel his bail. The father has no control over son. He is a serial offender who is harming the public on a repeated basis."

Nalapad was earlier arrested in 2018 in the Bengaluru pub incident in which he and his associate bashed up the son of a prominent businessman in the city. Nalapad Harris is out on bail after remaining in judicial custody for three months in the case of attempt to murder after the 2018 midnight brawl.
