Politics is business for JD(S): Kumar Bangarappa

Udupi, March 13: For JD(S) politics is a business and so they are contesting in the Udupi-Chikmagalur election, alleged Congress leader Kumar Bangarappa.

Speaking to press persons here on Tuesday he said that the BJP rule in the state had been an era of scandals and corruption. Fundamentalism ruled the roost at the cost of minorities.

Replying a question on his brother Madhu Bangarappa seeking Billava votes for JD(S), Kumar said that Congress party believed in secularism in letter and spirit. So there is no question of seeking votes in the name of caste or religion.

AICC member PV Mohan was present at the press meet.

Udupi, Mar 2: The Kundapur police carried out raids at various clubs in Kundapur Sub-division limits and arrested around 50 persons involved in illegal gambling and seized Rs 2.5 lakhs from their possession, the police said on Monday.

According to the police, on Sunday night, based on credible information, the Kudapur Sub-division police led by ASP Hariram Shanker and team raided various clubs in Goliyangadi, Siddapur, Koteswar and Basrur where the accused were found gambling illegally.

All the clubs had taken court permission for recreation but were illegally indulging in gambling. They had also violated the court conditions and were involved in illegal gambling.

Mangaluru, Jul 5: A COVID-19 patient escaped from a hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday, Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar.

A total of 1,925 cases of COVID-19 and 37 deaths recorded in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 23,474.

The health department informed that the death toll rose to 372 while active cases stood at 13,251 in the state.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India has recorded 6,73,165 numbers of COVID-19 cases and 19,268 deaths.

Puttur, Jul 7: A woman died after a wall of compound collapsed on her in Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday, July 7. 

The victim was identified as Vasanti.

The wall got weakened due to heavy rain at Golithottu area in Puttur. Her body was sent to the post-mortem.

According to the police, the incident took place around 12.30pm when Vasanti was working in the backyard of her house.
